Sarah "Sally" Childress, 1st Lady

Sarah married James Knox Polk, President on 1 Jan 1824 in Murfressboro, Rutherford Co, Tennessee. James (son of Samuel Ezekiel Polk and Jane Knox) was born on 2 Nov 1795 in near, Little Sugar Creek, Mecklenburg Co, North Carolina; died on 15 Jul 1849 in Polk Place, Nashville, Tennessee. Notes:

no issue but must have adopted (may not have formally) Sarah 'Sallie' Polk Jetton who is a grandniece. I think her parents are Robert B. Jetton and Mary S. Childress who were married Jan. 7, 1840 in Rutherford Co., Tennessee. She lived with her great aunt Sarah Childress Polk for over 30 years and is referred to on the 1880 census as daughter. This may not have been a formal adoption.
