This cemetery has served the citizens of Rockport and Fulton for over a century. The oldest marked grave is that of Emma Fulton (d. 1876), granddaughter of George Ware Fulton, who was instrumental in the development of the area and was interred in the cemetery in 1893. A large number of burials took place here in 1918, the year of a devastating influenza epidemic. The cemetery contains the graves of veterans of the Texas Revolution, Civil War, World War I, World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. The Rockport Cemetery Association maintains the historic graveyard. A very gracious lady who lives in Holmes County, Ohio, located and photographed this cemetery for me as a huge favor. She stated, "This cemetery is on TR 85 on the border of Holmes and Coshocton Counties. It is about 2 miles from my home, so I knew the area; however, it was a little difficult to find. You take RT 82 off of SR 60. There is a sign there for Overman's Natural Foods. Stay on that road (it veers off to the right.) When you come to a T (RT 85) turn right. The cemetery is on the left a few feet down this road." Her blog can be found at:

Salem Cemetery
"This is a large well kept cemetery in the Salem community and next to the Salem Baptist Church. There were 1063 markers with two of them having a death date of 1861. They were J.R. Martin who died April 16, 1861 and L. Nelson in 1861. The cemetery was surveyed by Sammy Tise on September 15, 1985 and October 26, 1985.
A sign in front of the church shows it was established July 14, 1857. A sign over the front gate of the cemetery reads: In memory of Mr. and Mrs. A. harless. A marker inside the cemetery reads: Dedicated to the memory, valor and generosity of Joel Ponton, Jr., 1842-1927; son of the Lavaca County pioneer settler, physician and minister, Joel Ponton, Sr.; Veteran Co. D, 2nd Texas Calvary, and its campaigns. Donor, March 31, 1881; tract of two acres for cemetery, Salem Cemetery."
