She said for me to tell you your Father (John Bounds) was dead. Her Ma (Martha Bounds Bosworth) had got a letter from some one there." Martha and Susan were sisters, John's daughters. 1306 | Letter - 1872, 08/25 Mary M Jones Norton to her beloved aunt, lamenting about family affairs and speaks word that Pa had moved into the "Devils Pocket" (?), and speaks of her and Mr. Norton's possible move to Northern Texas. She speaks of a family Rabb. Mrs. Rabb was a Jones, and interestingly enough, they lived next door to the Loveladys and only a two or three residences down from the Mabra Jones in Dewitt County in 1860. However, further research has not found any connection of the two Jones families. 1308 | Letter - 1903, 11/ (about), Winter from Stephen Lovelady Jones, typed on Waco-Times Hearld letterhead, to his cousin, Berry Butts. Speaks of the convenience of paved roads. Letter is not dated, but he states he will celebrate 17 years with the paper, He was editor for the Waco Daily in 1887. Assuming that was his entry position, 17 year anniversary would be May 1904, indicating this letter might have been written winter 1903/1904. On that basis, the trip to Beaumont would have been summer 1903, possibly for a reunion. The reunions rotated between Waco, Palestine and Beaumont. We know 1901 was Waco, 1902 then in Palestine, and 1903 in Beaumont. linked to: Waco Times-Herald, Waco, McLennan Co, Texas Frances Elizabeth Bosworth (I921) Berry Alexander Butts (I9060) Andrew* Prather Jones (I1209) Drucilla Adelaide Jones (I965) Stephen Lovelady Jones (I648) |

1322 | Library of Congress, American Treasurers Exhibit
Madden, John Madden; document of surveyed land near Dry Marsh, Frederick County, Virginia -- surveyed and signed by George Washington, Esq. Trained as a surveyor at Mount Vernon, George Washington began work as a surveyor's assistant in 1748 when he was just sixteen-years-old. Because the neighboring plantation of Belvoir was owned by a member of the Fairfax family, in 1749 Washington was named one of the surveyors of Lord Fairfax's Northern Neck Proprietary of five million acres between the Potomac and Rappahanock Rivers in Virginia. During his three years in service as one of the proprietor's surveyors, Washington prepared this survey of two hundred acres in Frederick County, Virginia, for John Madden. 1340 | Lovelady Cemetery Status: Not yet located; Cookesville, Putnam (formerly White) County, Tennessee Located in the southern portion of Putnam Co. From HWY 136 south toward White Co, turn right on Lovelady Rd(abt 5 miles south of intersection of I-40 and HWY 136.Cemetery is 1-2 miles on Lovelady Rd. Stones are located on both sides of the road. Lovelady Cemetery donated by Nichols family. Directions to the site are quite easy. if your coming out of central Cookeville, TN head south on Highway 136 (Jefferson Ave) continue south on past I-40 3 miles until Highway 111 (Old Sparta Rd) joins with Highway 136. Continue south until you reash Lovelady Road in 1 mile. I believe the cemetery is just under 1 mile west on this road on the left just past Johnson Drive or at the interesection of the Drive. There is a very delapidated sign that has the name of the cemetery there on the left. You see right on the right side of the road a couple of more kept up tomstones, but the largest portion of the cemetery is off on the south side of the road. (findagrave description) Transcription of cemetery (Thomas Lovelady's marker from 1830, apparently long ago decayed, is not noted. |

The Journal of a Virginia Girl, 1862-1864, This book is the actual journal kept by Lucy Breckenridge from August 11, 1862 until December 25, 1864. She began the journal as a way to alleviate the boredom of everyday life, having no one to visit or to receive, and nothing to read but the Bible and the newspaper. It is the journal of a young woman in a society torn by the Civil War. She was but 18 years old when the war began. (d) |
