Omar Snider-- Jerseyville
Omar Abner Snider, 80, died at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2006, at his home.
One of two sons of George H. and Callie M. (Blackwell) Snider, he was born April 7, 1925 , in Hardin.
After his graduation in 1943 from Hardin High School, he entered World War II. He serve d with the U.S. Army, was wounded in the Battle of the Bulge and was awarded the Purple HEart . He was a longtime member of the Hardin , where he open appliance store and later mana ged Langer Lumberyard.
He married the former Quindara Paddock on June 25, 1955, at the First Methodist Church i n Alton. They lived in Hardin for several years before moving to Godfrey, where he was an ac count executive for Blue Cross-Blue Shield of Illinois, ing in 1980. He also operate d a used bookstore on East Broadway in Alton. After retirement, he and his wife moved to Jer seyville, where they spent several years before her death Jan. 1, 1997.
Surviving are a brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Theresa Snider of Jerseyville; thre e nieces and their spouses, Renee and Steve Elliott, Brenda and Tom Kelly and Denise and Ric k Bock, all of Jerseyville; a nephew and his wife, Bruce aelly Snider of Jerseyville; an d 12 great nieces and great nephews.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until services at 1 p.m. Friday at Crawford Funeral Hom e in Jerseyville. The Rev. Paul D. Frazier will officiate.
Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.
Memorials may be given to the Jersey County Historical Society or to either the Jerseyvi lle or Hardin Presbyterian churches.
