- Audrey Lee Decker, 76, died Monday, April 13, 2009, at the Sunset Point Rehabilitation Center in Clearwater. She was born Dec. 15, 1932, in Hardin, one of three children born to the late Raymond and Kathryn (Johnston) Peeler. She married James Arnold Akers Jr. on Nov. 2, 1953, in Winchester. He died Sept. 19, 1981. She later married Wayne Eugene Decker on Aug. 6, 1982, at the First United Methodist Church in Jerseyville. He died Nov. 20, 2003. She was born and raised in Hardin. She was valedictorian of her high school graduating class. Several years after the birth of her fourth child, she attended Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, where she earned a master's degree in English literature. She taught classes at the college level and worked as a social worker for both the states of Illinois and Missouri. Audrey was also an accomplished as well as published author. Surviving are her four children and their spouses, Dr. Linda and Dr. Lewis Fischer of Waterloo, Jayne Prophetter and her husband, Henry, of Clearwater, James A. Akers III of Cottage Hills, and Janet Kimberly Story of Clearwater; her grandchildren, Tamara, Donovan, and Alexander Fischer, Kathryn and Gabriel Pizzo, Brandy, Jami, Jasmine, Justina, and Jalena Akers, Jarad and Jamie Story; her great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Damian, Aubrey, Autumn, Gage, Talyn, and Jaedrien; and a brother, Raymond Peeler. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Peeler. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 17, at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 18. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.
