JERSEYVJLLE - Oren William "Bill" Lane, 74, died at 3 p.m. Monday, May 20, 1996, at
St. Louis University Hospital.
Born in Alton Sept. 28, 1921, he was the son of the late Frank and Nellie (Manley) Lane.
He grew up and lived in the Calhoun area for most of his life and moved to Jerseyville in 199 1 from Nebo.
While in Calhoun County he worked as a farmhand for various farmers and eventually retired i n 1978 from the White Hall Community Hospital where he worked in the maintenance
department.
He was a U.S. Army Air Corps World War II veteran and member of the Eldred American Legion Po st 1135.
He married the former Viola Hunt July 10, 1944, in Hardin. She survives.
Also surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Lois and Steve Moore of Brighton; two
granddaughters, Shanda Byer of Springfield and Melissa Brogdon of Brighton; and a sister, Ali ce Oliver of Jerseyville.
He was preceded in death by a son, Eldon Lane, who died in 1952, and a brother, James Lane.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Crawford-Holden Funeral Home in Jerseyville,
where services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday.
Full military graveside rites will be conducted by Jerseyville American Legion Post 492 and V eterans of Foreign Wars Post 4528 at Grimes Cemetery in Jerseyville.
Memorial donations may be directed to the Lane family.
