CARROLLTON Virgil A. Buchanan, 72, was pronounced dead at 6:25 p.m. Saturday at
his residence, after a lengthy illness.
Buchanan, a World War II veteran, retired from Alton Boxboard.
He was born in Rombauer, Mo., son of the late Henry G. and Maudie G. (Hamm) Buchanan.
Surviving are his former wife, Minnie Ruyle Buchanan of Carrollton; two children, Lanita
Combs and Donald A. Buchanan, both of Carrollton; five grandchildren; a stepgranddaughter;
three brothers, Lennie Buchanan of Branson, Mo., Grover Buchanan of Madison and John L. Bucha nan of Alton; and two sisters, Beulah Henderson and Elsie Herbstrait, both of Alton.
Two brothers and a sister preceded him in death.
No visitation is scheduled.
The body was donated to Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.
Memorial services are at 10 a.m. Dec. 29 at Berdan Baptist Church near Carrollton with the
Rev. Dave Lawson officiating.
Memorials may be given to the Children's Transplant or Patient Care funds of Barnes Hospita l in St. Louis.
Airsman-Hires Funeral Home of Carrollton is in charge of arrangements.
