GROPPEL. Carl E Groppel, 73, retired teacher of Jerseyville d. July 8 at Jersey County Memori al hospital after a lengthy illness. Services were held at Peace United Church by Rev Rober t Broeder. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. He had retired in June, 1970 after 25 years of t eaching in Jersey county schools including E Elementary where he taught from 1948-70. He als o taught in Hardin from 1946-48. He was born March 24, 1907, the son of Edward & Anna (Egelho ff) Groppel. He was a member of Peace United Church, Jerseyville, Masonic Lodge AF & AM, 32n d Scottish Rite, Belleville and Shriners Ainaid Temple, East St. Louis. Surviving are his wif e, Elizabeth (Herron) whom he married April 29, 1934 at Fieldon; 2 daughters, Janis Taylor o f Wood River and Janet Masieroof Alton; 1 son, Bob Groppel of Delta Junction, AK; 11 grandchi ldren and 5 g-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 3 sisters. Masonic se rvices were conducted at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Peace United Church an d American Cancer Society.
