Crash Victims Rites Saturday page 7
JERSEYVILLE Funeral services for the three Jerseyville residents killed in an auto crash We dnesday evening on Rt. 67 in the southern part of the city will be held Saturday.
Joseph Ritter's rites will be conducted at 9:30 a. m. at St. Francis Xavier Church with Fathe r John J. Clancy officiating.
Burial will be in St. Franis Xavier Cemetery. The rotary will be recited at 8 p. m. Friday a t the funeral home. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p. m. Friday.
Surviving Ritter are his wife, Esther, three .sons, John Barry, Robert J. and Michael A., an d one daughter, Marjorie, all of Jerseyville, two brothers, John of Springfield, and Arthur o f Kampsville, and two sisters, Mrs. Robert Malloy of Jerseyville, and Mrs. Harry Home of Rawl ings,. Wyo.

Three Jerseyville residents and a St. Louisan were killed In Alton area traffic crashes Jul y 4. Six persons injured in crashes.
The Jerseyville residents were killed and two others injured seriously in a collision involvi ng two autos and a truck on Rt. 67A in the Jerseyville limits near the Clark Service Statio n Wednesday at 9:30 p.m.
Dead are: Joseph Ritter, 46, of 500 North State St., owner of an automobile agency here; Ome r Erdman, 47, and his wife, Mrs. Leavetta Erdman, 41, of East Prairie street.
Injured were: Clarence W. Davis, 39, of 501 Fairground, and Mrs. Joseph Ritter, 45.
Ritter was apparently killed instantly and Mr. and Mrs. Erdman died several minutes later i n Jersey Community Hospital.
According: to state police, a car driven by Gayle Tucker, 33, of 800 Baxter, Jerseyville, wa s traveling north and struck the rear duel wheels of a tractor truck driven by W. L. Evans, 4 3, of Jerseyville. The Tucker vehicle was catapulted through the air and landed on top of th e Ritter auto, which was southbound.
Police reported the top of Ritter's car was sheared off. Davis was admitted to the hospital w ith head and chest injuries and Mrs. Ritter with severe lacerations. Both were reported to b e in "fair" condition
this morning.
Tucker was given emergency treatment, then released. He was arrested at 1 a.m. following hi s release from the hospital and charged with driving a motor vehicle while under the influenc e of intoxicating liquor. He was taken to the county jail where bond was set at $5,000. The c omplaint was signed by State Patrolman Estcs of Jerseyville.
Ritter was owner of Jersey County Motor Co., and was recently elected grand knight of the Jer seyville K. of C. Council. Erdman was employed by Shell Oil Co., and Mrs. Erdman was secretar y in the office of
the Jersey County Illinois Veterans Commission. Their son-in- law, Robert Flynn, is a Jerse y County deputy sheriff.
