- Missouri Obituary:
MRS. J. E. DIXON'S SISTER DIES
Mrs. Joe E. Dixon hands the TIMES editor a copy of the Corona California Independent containing notice of the death of her sister Mrs. Crissie Burton. The deceased was the widow of the late Jim Mac Burton and formerly resided in Madison. She died in her sleep and her demise was not known until members of the family went to her room Christmas morning. Mrs. Burton was born May 25, 1856 in Kentucky. She died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Hallie Jones. She is also survived by a son William of Loomis, Washington, a brother, G. W. (George Washington) Wood, of Olympia, Washington, two sisters, Mrs. J. E. Dixon and Mrs. Laura Hewgley of Madison and four grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. J. M. Barnhart of the Methodist church and burial was made in the Corona Cemetery. Old friends here will be grieved to learn of her passing and sympathize with her loved ones in their sorrow. Jan 11, 1934

Notes |
- She was 14 years old the day she married George. George was 27 years old. Neal Freeman wrote that George first met Nancy when he was an overseer on a Kentucky plantation. Nancy was visiting nearby. Nancy's mother had died in 1830 and her father, Thomas Burchett Batts, Jr., remarried Polly Sanders on December 3, 1831 in Henry County, Kentucky.
The IGI Family Group Record at the LDS Family History Library reflects that George and Nancy married March 6, 1837 in Gallatin, Monroe, Kentucky. I suspect that the entry of Monroe is in error and that Gallatin County is correct.
