And--last, but not least. Now you know what I did for the holiday. I ha da ball with this information, it
helped tie up some loose ends for me.
Dr. A. J. Smoot was Dr. Andrew Jackson Smoot, son of John Weems Smoot. Id oubt the information about this
father though. John Weems Smoot was only 16 in 1812--a little young to be leading a group of veterans????
The Smoot Family webpage states that Verlinda Fowke Brawner was the dau .of John Brawner and Catherine
Briscoe, but I'm leaning toward Alexander and it would seem that we hav ebrothers marrying sisters here.
Verlinda and Gerard Wood Crain Smoot were married 11/18/1891 in Baltimore.
I have that Ann, the youngest dau. of Gerard Wood died in 1822. I have that she married Dr. Gerard Plater but
I have no parents for him. If he was a grandson of Gov. Plater then he was probably a first cousin of Edward
L. Plater who married Evelina Young. Anybody know who is parents were?
I have Andrew Jackson Smoot, b. 7/7/1828 and died 4/11/1906. He was the son of John Weems Smoot and Elizabeth
Eleanor Ann Hawkins. He married Ann "Nannie" Wood Crain, dau. of Dr. Robert Crain and Mary Wood in 1855.
Their children:
1. Gerard Wood Crain Smoot, b. 1/3/1866 at "Society Hill", Charles Co. and died 3/18/1942 in Baltimore. He
married Verlinda Fowke Brawner 11/18/1891 in Baltimore.
2. Hungerford Smoot, b. aft 1867 and died aft 1903 who married Mary C. Brawner, sister of Verlinda and
daughters of Alexander Brawner?
3. Andrew Jackson Smoot, Jr., b. aft 1867 and died 9/1902.
4. Amelia Tabbs Smoot; living in Baltimore in 1903.
For further information on the Smoot family, I suggest you look at the webpage of Steve Smoot at:
