- John Rust served in the war of 1812 as a member of Captain Daniel Matthew's** Company of Riflemen, McDowell's Flying Camp, 4th Regiment, Virginia militia, to September 28, 1813, and as a private in company of infantry, same regiment, from Sep 29, 1813, to Jan 10, 1814.
He owned a beautiful brick manor house on the Shenandoah River in Warren County, Virginia, and for many years was judge of the county court of that county, and was senior Justice of the Peace."
