!14 Apr 1736: Deed dated 14 April 1736: "James Ball of St Mary White Chappel, Lancaster County, gent. to Joseph Chinn of said parish and county. Whereas the said Joseph Chinn had taken to wife Elizabeth Ball late of the daughters of the said James Ball, by which said Elizabeth his late wife the said Joseph Chinn has issue two daughters to wit: Ann Chinn and Elizabeth Chinn both still living. In consideration of the natural love and affection which the said James bears for his said two grandaughters Ann and Elizabeth Chinn. Plantation containing by estimation 340 acres, to them and their lawfull heirs of their bodies." !12 Mar 1742: "He inherited his father's manor plantation of 30 acres, Lancaster County, Virginia, and also 500 acres in Prince William County, Virginia, of a tract of 3,300 acres. They were included in Loudoun County after 1757. In 1763 he sold to Colonel Levin Powell 500 acres of his Loudoun County lands and on part of the land Powell in 1782, laid out the Town of Middleburg, Virginia. The Powells and Chinns fell out in 1811 over their dividing lines. The matter was compromised in court in Leesburg, Virginia, April 7, 1814." "They had children: John, Ann and Elizabeth." !1761-1762: Chinn's Mill Pond named for Joseph Chinn who built the pond and mill in 1761-1762 in partnership with James Ball who owned land adjoining the pond on the Lancaster Co. side. The pond includes at its upper end all of the Morattico Old Mill Pond. The old dam is still partially visible a third of a mile upstream from the present day where highway 3 now crosses Lancaster Creek.
!8 Jan 1763: Joseph and Priscilla Chinn of Lancaster Co sold their share of the inheritance to Leven Powell for 110 pounds. The deed described the land as "situate lying and being in the County of Loudoun on the lower or south side of goose Creek which said land was willed to the said Joseph Chinn by his father Rawleigh Chinn being part of a large tract taken up and patented by the said Rawleigh Chinn including the plantation settled by Edward hughes containing five hundred acres."
