Gibbs Family Homepage: In 1733, Zachariah and Mary moved into that portion of Spotsylvania County, Virginia, that was later formed into Orange County, Virginia in 1734. On 3 April 1733, he purchased 100 acres of land in St. Marks Parish in Spotsylvania County from Richard Maulder. His brother-in-law, John Barnett, purchased the adjoining 184 acres from Mr. Maulder on the same day.

Edward Tinsley is hereby appointed Overseer of ye Courthouse road from Benja: Porters to Wm Crosthwaits and its ordered that the said Tinsleys Edward Walkers Elijah Daniels Nicholas
Battle’s & Zachary Gibbs’s tithables do work on the said Road & be exempted from all other roads And its further ordered that the said Tinsley cause the highway to be cleared & bridges
repaired In the said Precinct according to Law.

Zachary Gibs not appearing to offer any Excuse It is Considered by the Court that he forfeit & pay _______ fifteen shillings for his said offence and pay Costs.
