- After her Husband untimely death, Elizabeth became quite a business woman, buying and selling a number of tracts of land in Putnam Co, TN. A survey was made for Edward Franklin in Jackson Co, TN for a tract of land. This area of Jackson Co, became a part of the new County of Putnam in 1854. The survey showed him having 100 acres by virtue of entry no. 1210 dated September the 12th, 1827. By the middle of the year 1830 Edward Franklin was dead. A family story is that he was a very strong young man, and could whip any man in a wrestle. One day he wrestled a very strong man, won the bout, and in a very short time he was dead. Elizabeth was left a widow at about age twenty-four with two small children. She became quite a business woman of her time.
