I just found the Applications for Enrollment of the Commission to the Five Civilized Tribes, 1898-1914 on Footnote and found the application for Josiah Doak's son, Alexander V. Doak. In it some of the questions and answers regarding Josiah Doak are as follows:
Q "When did Jo Doak die?" A "About 1873".
Q "Where did he die, do you know?" A "He died about twelve miles above Corpus Christi."
Q "In Texas?" A "yes sir."
Q "You don't remember exactly the date of his death?" A "No sir."
Q "Is that in any of your papers?" A "No sir."
Q "What was his age when he died?" A "About eighty six."
So now I am convinced that Josiah Doak, father of William H., Malvina Doak (she is mentioned in one of the applications, too), A. V. Doak, Joseph D. Doak and Jonathan Doak, was living in Nueces County, Texas in 1850 and 1860 and probably through to his death around 1873, according to his son Alexander.

My cousin, Jim Barton, sent me a copy of the proceedings of a hearing by the Department Of The Interior, Commission Of The Five Civilized Tribes, dated December 4, 1906. This was a hearing in which Alexander V. Doak, youngest son of Josiah Doak, was seeking legal membership in the Choctaw tribe. Josiah was made a member of the Choctaw Tribe by Chief Pushmataha. Alexander was granted hearings, but his claims were denied.
Alexander stated that Josiah died in about 1873, twelve miles north of Corpus Christi, Texas. He said that Josiah was about 86 when he died.
Alexander, age 59, said that he was born in Holly Springs, MS. He moved to Doaksville when he was one year old. He lived in Doaksville for about 10 years. He moved with his family to Clarkesville, TX, and lived there about 10 years. He then moved to Fayetteville, AR. He lived there for 5-6 years. He moved to Bates County, Missouri for 4-5 years.
After WWI, he moved to Sherman, TX. He later moved to Dennison, TX, then to Gainsville, then to Dallas. He said he was traveling for Simpson (?) for thirteen years. For the last three years was a government contractor in Ardmore, OK, (1903-1906).
Alexander stated that his father, Josiah, was of Scot decent and spoke with a brogue.
