- James McBride, who lived in South Carolina, has been confused with and virtually merged with James McBride who married Mary Crawford. Thanks to much work, research and resources on the part of Glenn Morton, these two individuals now have their own identities. His study along with documentation is attached.

- - Information from Thomas McBryde via Doolie McBryde Mangrum.
- Data was from Mrs Mary B. McBryde 2515 Dittmer, Oklahoma City, OK 73127:
No records have been found giving data of birth of either James McBride or his wife, Mary. We know that on May 10, 1764, Dr. Clark with about 300 of his congregation of Balliby County, Monaghan, sailed from Newry, Ireland, for America. The landed in New York on July 28, 1764. Although Dr. Clark made the arrangements for land in NY for his congregation, some decided to go to South Carolina, and the McBrides were in this group. They settled in Cedar Springs in Abbeville Co. When the first Presbeterian church was organized in this area, we find James McBride listed as an elder. Later the records show Hugh and Thomas McBride, sons of James. A will left by Thomas McBride, dated 1789 mentions his father James McBride and his brother Hugh. It is thought that James and Mary also had a daughter named Rebecca, who married Mr. Erwin and after his death she married a Mr. Witherspoon, but no record of this. Both James and his son, Hugh, were soldiers of the revolution. Copies from the Historical Committee of Columbia, South Carolina, dated 29 June 1785, states that James received two pounds, et al, and Hugh, two pounds, as privates.
