- In the year of her birth, "Virginians under George Rogers Clark, completed their conquest of the Old Northwest, capturing Vincennes, Indiana. Also, during that year, John Paul Jones, commanding the "Bonhomme Richard," won a great naval victory against the British frigate, Serapis, off the east coast of England.... One of their daughters, Anne E. Nelson, and her husband, Thomas Smith Wingfield, became the parents of seven children and the descendants of these seven are recorded in Chapters 4 through 10 of this book -- hundreds in number." Her husband John B. Nelson was the son of Joseph Nelson and Catherine Obannion.
