Notes |
- Thought to have immigrated to eastern Kentucky with the Glass family over the "Wilderness Trail". Evidently William did not continue on to Illinois. This family is difficult, as it seems they used the name "Barnwell" and "Barnhill" interchangibly, depending on whose company they were in. Parentage of William not documented. Barnwell records indicate a William Barnhill as the father of James. William Barnhill was said to be a part of the general immigration from the north of England, the south of Scotland and the north of Ireland to America. This immigration started about 1760 and, after a pause for the Revolution, ended in the mid 1830's. Because the Barnwell's say William immigrated to he Colonies, it is assumed by this researcher that Joseph stayed in Ireland when his mother set out for the Americas.
