- Jimmy Hanks of Fort Smith(Sebastian County), Arkansas, died Thursday, May 22, 2008, in a Fort Smith hospital. He was 90 years old. Mr. Hanks was born in 1917 in Muskogee(Muskogee County), Oklahoma, but moved to Fort Smith, Arkansas in 1941. In 1955, he began working at the First National Bank of Fort Smith. After his retirement, he and his wife Wanda resided on a loarge cattle ranch(along with his mother, Cleo), in Midland(Sebastian County), Arkansas. Mr. Hanks was also a United States Navy veteran of World War II.
A year ago, Jimmy survived an aortic aneurysm and recovered after a five week stay at St. Edward Mercy Medical Center. His miraculous recovery was not a suprise to those who knew what a tough and determined man he could be. Mr. Hanks enjoyed discussing world politics, and took great pride and enjoyment spending time with his great-grandchildren.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife: Wanda Hanks.
He is survived by a son: H. L. Hanks of Hackett, Arkansas; one granddaughter: Jamie Nourzad and her husband, John of Atlanta, Georgia; two great-grandchildren: Afton and Hunter Nourzad; his devoted companion: Gean Kukar, and her son: John Kukar of Fort Smith, Arkansas.
Funeral service was held on Wednesday, May 28, 2008, at 11:00a.m. at the Hartford Memorial Park Cemetery. Rev. Bill Cheyne officiated the service.
