The County line between Jefferson Co. and Grainger Co. ran through Morristown and down the road to Panther Creek, and apparently up Panther Creek. John Smith's original 400 acres was on the north and east side of Panther Creek lying in both counties. William Smith's 200 acres fell on both sides of the County line, but his house was apparently on the Grainger Co. side of the road, while his father's was on the Jefferson Co. side. This area fell in Hamblen Co. in 1870.
