DEATH OF ISAAC C JONES.
After a brief illness, Isaac Cooper Jones, Jr., president of the Germantown Savings Fund Society, died last Sunday morning tram an acute attack of pleuro-pneumonia, in the eighty-second year of his age, at his home, No. 2 East Penn street. The deceased was a descendant of an old Philadelphia family, and was the eldest son of the late Isaac C. Jones, a member of the dry goods firm of W. S Brown & Co, one of the largest houses in the city a half century ago, and was first employed in his father's establishment, where he learned the business. A few years later he became a stock broker, in which capacity he was engaged for about thirty years, retiring in 1881. During the war Mr. Jones was for a time a member of the Emergency Corps of the Third Pennsylvania Reserves, and fought in the battle of Antietam. In 1884 Mr. Jones was made vice-president of the Savings Fund Society, and in September, 1890, at the death of T. Charlton Henry, the president of that corporation, was elected to fill the vacancy. Mr. Jones was at one time connected with the First Presbyterian Church, but since the establishing of the West Side Presbyterian Church, of which be became a charter member, he took great interest in that mission, having been superintendent of the Sunday-school from its commencement, twenty-five years ago, and was always ready to give assistance both by his means and influence. Those who had a close acquaintance with him must have been impressed with his marvelous capacity for work, and the thoroughness which characterized everything he did. His genial presence and wise counsel will he greatly missed by all with whom he came in contact, and of him it may be truly said he leaves a record of a life well spent. A wife and two sons, Woodruff and Thomas Jones, survive. Funeral services were held at his late residence, Wednesday afternoon. The service was conducted by the Rev. William Porter Lee, pastor of the West Side Presbyterian Church, assisted by the Rev. Charles Wood, D. D, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church ; the Rev. J. Frederick Drippe, D. D., of Savannah, Ga., and. the Rev. J. Richards, of New Jersey. The pall-bearers were six nephews of the deceased. Placed about the casket were floral tributes from friends and the officers and clerks of the Savings Fund Society.
