- On 23 Jan. 1666/7, Robert Shepard , described as servant of Edward Shepard, was accused of the paternity of the child of Rachel Smith, servant to Robert Parker, and Edward and John Shepard went on his bond.

It is unlikely that a son would be described as servant [i.e., apprentice], but Robert may have been a nephew or grandnephew.

- The inventory announcing to ? in the estate on Serg John Shepherd of Hartford (cooper who died 2 June 1707 was exhibited 7 Julv 1707 by John Shepherd, cooper and the widow Martha Shephard and the son John and Thomas were appointed administrators. the debts came to £114 somewhat above the value of the movable estate so some real estate was ordered sold.
On 4 Sept. 1710. the children having made an agreement based on what each had received during the lifetime of the deceased, the Court ordered a distribution to John (eldest son, Samuel Thomas, and the seven daughters and a distribution was filed naming the widow Martha Shepherd, John, Thomas, Samuel, Elizabeth Goodwin, Rebeckah Bigelow, deed of her representatives, Sarah Stone, Deborah White. He was a cooper and is described in his deeds at Cambridge Mitchell's listing of the members of the Church at Cambridge includes John Shepard (son of Edward Shepard before named his wife both in full Communion.
On 4 May 1671, John Shepard of Cambridge, cooper, with his wife Rebecca who signed by mark (R S), sold his dwelling house with yards and orchard adjoining, to John Stedman, Jr.; and they sold further land there, 4 June 1671, to Justinian Holden. Doubtless this marks the date of the removal of the family to Hartford. It was not until 18 Sept.
1681 that John Shepard of Hartford, cooper, sold ? the late dwelling place of Edward Shepard? in Cambridge [his father had died the previous year]. [Middlesex County Deeds.]In Hartford, John Shepard was chosen sealer of weiglus and measures
in 1673 and 1679, and was often called Sergeant in the records.
On 27 Feb. 1696 /7 , in two separate deeds,John Shepard, Sr., cooper, of Hartford conveyed to his son Samuel Shepard, cooper, and to Thomas Shepard, cooper, property which ? I had in right of my father in law Samuel Greenhill of Hartford. He also conveyed on the same date to John Shepard, Jr., of Hartford, cooper, and is called Sergeant in acknowledging this deed and on 25 Dec. 1706, John Shepard, Sr. (of Hartford conveyed to John Shepard ? The third? [his grandson], now residing in Hartford. But it was three years after his death and therefore his son who, on 27 Mar. 1710, calling himself ? Sr., of Hartford, cooper/ ' conveyed to his son, John Shepard, Jr., of Milford, cooper. [Hartford Deeds.]
