    Aubrey Bailey
    HARDIN - Aubrey Arthur Bailey, 74, died at 11:45 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6,1992, at Calhoun
    Care Center in Hardin.
    He retired from the Illinois Division of Highways.
    Born Jan. 12, 1918, in Hardin, he was the son of the late Wilson Rush and Minnie (Geske) Bail ey.
    On July 25, 1938, in Kentucky, he married the former Bernice L. Reddish, and she survives.
    Also surviving are two sons, Anthony and Arthur Bailey, both of Hardin; a daughter, Carmen
    Thurmon of Midland, Texas; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister,
    Lela Edminston of Alton.
    He was preceded in death by a brother, Jacob Bailey Sr.; and two sisters, Ada Rose Smith an d Margaret Wilson Utterback.
    The body was cremated.
    A memorial service is scheduled for 7 p.m. Oct. 14 at Hanks-Gubser Funeral Home in
    Hardin. The Rev. Wayne Strubbergwill officiate.
    Burial is in Hardin Cemetery.
    Memorials may be made to the Calhoun County Ambulance Service.

    ALTON - Lela M. Edmiston, 75. died at 1:31 a.m. Sunday. Dec. 24, 1995, at St. Anthony's Hospi tal in Alton.
    Born in Calhoun County Oct. 30. 1920, she was a daughter cf the late Wilson Rush and Minnie ( Geske) Bailey.
    She married her ex-husband. William E. Edmiston, Nov. 1, 1941, in Columbia. Mo., and he survi ves.
    Also surviving are three daughters, Karen Boedeker of Godfrey, Patricia Gorman of Bentonville , Ark., and Tamara Edmiston of St. Louis; a son, William R. Edmiston of St. Louis; and thre e grandchildren, Brian and his wife, Penny, Boedeker, Brooke Boedeker and Kelly Gorman.
    She was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Edmiston; four brothers, Edward, Johnny, Jacob Sr . and Aubrey Bailey; and two sisters, Ada Rose Smith and Margaret Wilson Utterback.
    Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Elias-Smith Funeral Home in Godfrey.
    Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Calvary Baptist Church in Alton, with Brother Andre ' Dobson officiating.
    Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.
    Memorials may be made to the church, where she was a member.

    SMITH

    GILLESPIE - Adah Rose Smith. 56. died at 8:50 p.m. Monday at Christian Hospital Northeast, St . Louis.
    Employed in the janitorial department at the Macoupin County Courthouse, she was born in Hard in, daughter of the late Wilson and Minnie (Geske) Bailey. Her husband, George W. Smith, die d Jan.31,1981.
    Surviving are two sons, George W. Jr. and CW Smith, both of Alton; two grandchildren; two sis ters, Lela Edmiston of Alton and Margie Utterback of Graf ton; and two brothers, Aubrey and J acob Bailey, both of Hardin.
    The body was donated to medical science, and a memorial service will be conducted at a late r date.
    The American Cancer Society has been named as a memorial, and Kravanya Funeral Home is in cha rge of arrangements.

    'Jake' Bailey
    KAMPSVILLE - Wilson Jacob "Jake" Bailey, 67, died at 10:58 a.m. Monday, March 25, 1991, at Ch ristian Hospital Northeast in St. Louis County.
    He owned and operated Hardin Bus Line Inc. for 20 years and was a truck driver for Gateway Tr ansportation in St. Louis.
    Born on April 19, 1923, in Gilead, he was the son of the late Wilson and Minnie (Geske)
    Bailey.
    He and the former Beverly Bennett were married on Aug. 7,1950, in Arkansas.
    Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Pamela Newman of Nebo; four sons, Clifton "Greg" Bailey o f Kampsville, Alan Bailey of Michael and Kip Bailey and Michael Roth, both of Hardin; 10 gran dchildren; a brother, Aubrey Bailey of Hardin; and a sister, Lela Edmiston of Alton.
    Preceding him in death were a daughter, Bunnie Bailey; a son, Wilson Jacob Bailey II; two sis ters and two brothers.
    Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hanks-Gubser Funeral Home in Hardin, where rite s will be conducted at 7 p.m. by Hardin Masonic Lodge 792.
    Services are at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Estelle Bettis officiating .
    Burial is in Hardin Cemetery.
    Memorials may be given to the Parents of Murdered Children.

    Youth Drowns In River Near Hardin Bridge

    HARDIN, June 10.John Bailey, 16, son of Wilson Bailey of East Hardin, was drowned in the Ill inois
    river near the Hardin bridge at 3:30 p. m. Wednesday. His body has not been recovered.
    James Ulery and David Relhel, two boys who had gone swimming with Bailey, said that they wer e on the river bank preparing to dress, when Bailey plunged into the water and swam to a timb er pier used as a "breakwater". Later, they said, they saw Bailey dive into the water and sta rt swimmifig toward shore. They continued to dress, they said, and it suddenly occurred to th em that Bailey was not in sight.
    Attempts to recover the body from the channel were launched at once by fishermen and Hardin o fficials.
    Alton police sent a squad here to stand by with equipment to revive the boy if the body had b een recovered soon enough.
    Bailey is survived, by his father; two brothers, Aubrey and Jake, who operate a bus line betw een Hardin and Alton; three sisters, Adah Rose, Lela and Margaret.

    Aubrey Anthony "Tony" Bailey, 68, died Saturday, March 17, 2007, at White Hall Care Center i n White Hall.
    Born Dec. 25, 1938, in Hardin, he was a son of Bernice (Reddish) Bailey and the late Aubrey B ailey.
    A barber for 46 years, he retired from Tony's Barber Shop in White Hail. He had also served a s a school bus driver for the Calhoun School District and as a janitor at Calhoun High School .
    In addition to his mother, surviving are two daughters and their husbands, Michele and Alan B rady of White Hall and Rebecca and Tom Wade of Kampsville; three grandchildren, Alicia Brady , Kayla and Hannah Wade; a sister and her husband, Carmen and Bill Thurmon of Midland, Texas ; one brother and his wife, Arthur and Ruthie Bailey of Hardin; and many nieces and nephews.
    There will be no visitation.
    Per his wishes, his remains were cremated.
    Condolences may be sent to 307 N. Carrollton St., White Hall, IL 62092.
    Hanks-Gress Funeral Home of Hardin is in charge of arrangements.
