Magdalene married Andrew Heath about 1745 in Hunterdon, New Jersey. Andrew (son of Andrew Heath and Mary (..) Heath) was born about 1721 in Delaware Twp, Hunterdon Co, New Jersey; died before 21 Jun 1777. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Notes:

Andrew was the eldest son and inherited his father's large estate under the prevailing law of primogeniture. He gave his brother, John, a farm on the east side of his plantation and to his brother, Richard, a farm on the west side. Andrew lived on the plantation in the central portion with his mother, Magdalene, until her marriage to Uriah Bonham (Aug 30, 1780) at which time he sold his property and moved to Virginia. He bought on the tenth of March 1775, five hundred acres of land in Loudon County, Virginia lying on Elk Creek Run a branch of Bull Run. This was adjacent to the Hutchison property.
On 12 Jun 1785 he bought 50 acres, in Feb 1797 he bought 210 acres in Loudoun County and 350 acres in Prince William County; just across from Bull Run. He sold this land to his son Isaac in October 1896. Andrew's will dated 8 November 1817 is recorded in Loudoun County, Virginia. His wife, Hannah, preceded him in death.

Hi, I seen your posting on the internet from back in 2002. I am not sure how far you have gotten with your research but I figured I would let you know I have and am researching the Heath family. Andrew Heath Sr born in Pa in 1700's and died about 1817 Loudoun County Virginia. He married Hannah Smalley. He had numerous children and one was a Andrew Shelton Heath. Well I have traced this line so far from Huntington Pa to Loudoun County Virginia to Warren County Virginia and back into Pennsylvania. Currently I am working on a Andrew Shelton Heath born abt 1801 Virginia and died possibly in Warren County between 1870-1880. It appears his wife Lucinda and some of his sons moved into Pennsylvania. Andrew Shelton Heath son of said Andrew born abt 1801 Virginia was born abt 1854 Virginia probably Page County or Warren County Virginia I can not seem to find him after the 1860 Census. Now his brothers Charles H, James W, Thomas J looks like they went into Pennsylvania. I am not sure if any went into New Jersey or not as I am still working on this Heath family. Now as far as Andrew Heath the father of Isaac and husband of Hannah Smalley came to Loudoun before 1780 as he purchased 500 acres of land in 1775 from Nimrod Hott. I have the deed and have traced this 500 Acres in Loudoun up to 1825 who Thomas Buck purchased 250 acres of the 500 and Lydia Heath daughter of Andrew and Hannah purchased the other 250 acres. If this Eliza Sarah you speak of is related to this Heath line Andrew and Hannah, then the only sons of them to of had her in 1812 would of been Andrew Shelton Heath born abt 1780 thereabout wife unknown and Isaac Heath and Sarah Rogers those are the only 2 males that are sons of Hannah Smalley and Andrew that would of been in line for that birth year. Now Andrew S Heath born abt 1780 I do not know anything about him except he died in 1841. I am not sure if he married or had any children. It appears he did not as I have the will of his father, sister Lydia Heath and sister Ruhamah Heath McKim Buck an there is no mention of any of his children or his wife if he had married at that time.

John was elected a captain on 23 May 1782 in the Third Regiment , Hunterdon Co. Militia during the Revolutionary Ear. He served in the Amwell Township militia in1792 and was a member of the Kingwood Baptist Church. When the Locktown school district was formed and a school house built in 1804, John and Richard were the first trustees, serving twenty years. John lived and died on a farm southeast of Locktown. His will dated 25 December 1817 and probated 17 Feb 1827.

Richard is buried in the Old School Baptist Church Cemetery, Locktown, New Jersey.

In J.P. Snell's " History of Hunterdon & Someset Counties", Snell wrote that Richard's father, Andrew served in his place during the Revolutionary War believing Richard too young to serve. However the New Jersey Adjutant General's Offices a record of Richard having enlisted as a private in the 2nd Regiment of the Hunterdon County Militia under Captains Ely, Schenk, Stout, Phillips, Gearhart, and Hoppock, making several monthly tours. Richard's name was on the 1792 Kingwood Township Militia roll. His name is found in the daybook of John Waterhouse who kept the old Kingwood store in 1796, having purchased a 1/2 gallon of rum for seven shillings.

Richard Heath and his wife Catherine Rittenhouse were members of the Kingwood Baptist Church, incorporated on 22 May 1742, when members of the Old School Baptist Church in Hopewell wanted a church closer to their homes in Baptistown. Their assiation with the church is recorded in the Kingwood Baptist Church Records, published in 'Hunterdon County Records 1701-1838" by Phyllis D'Autrechy. The author states that the church minutes indicate the church took an active part in maintaining the moral fiber of its members and settled disputes between them. Church members were sent to admonish those who did not attend services regularly or were guilty of cardplaying, profanity, drinking and other behavior frowned upon. The admonished were able to present their cases at the next business meeting, and if found innocent or confessed to the wrongdoing were invited to "keep his place", thereby retaining membership. Exclusion from the sacraments and final dismissal resulted if the member neglected to answer the charge against him.

The first record of Richard was on 16 September 1787 when he was baptized at the age of twenty eight, followed three months later by the baptism of "Cattron" on 02 December 1787. Four years later on 24 January 1791 Richard and Catherine were ruested to appear at the next meeting, together with his brother John; the record does not state the reason. Two years later the records indicate that on 04 March 1793 Richard and Catherine were excluded, together with brother John. John was restored to membership three years later; Richard and Catherine a week later on 07 March 1796. Richard's activity in the church continued and he with two other members were delegated to ask the Reverend Garner A. Hunt, their pastor, why he had departed from their faith and order; on the first of May Rev. Hunt had joined the Presbyterians. On 10 September 1808 Richard was to procure "cole" and be a messenger to the Philadelphia Association, representing the church. Richard entered on 03 June 1809 a complaint against Thomas Dalrymple who was suspended, but later restored to membeship. Richard's daughter Elizabeth Emmons was baptized in June 1808 and was received into membership on the 19th of the same momth. At the 10 February 1810 Richard paid $ 57.25 when the trustees met at Francis Roberson's house and settled with those who held subscription papers. Richard was the moderator at the 17 March 1810 meeting, and was one of two members selected to meet with the Flemington Baptist Church to counsel them on the best method for obaining a minister.
His daughter Elizabeth Emmons was dismissed by letter on 12 May1810. At a special meeting on 08 November 1810 Richard was selected to serve on the committee which was to meet with the Amwell church regarding the need of a minister fo both churches. Richard and the committee reported on the 29 July 1811 that Rev. James McLuaghlin agreed to be their minister fo one year. Richard served as moderator for several meetings, and the last mention of him in the records was on the 01 January 1819 meeting at the Baptistown meeting house when it was agreed to build a new meeting house in the lower part of the congregation, or near Mr. William Dilt's, this meeting house was completed by 24 June 1820.

On May 4th, 1809 she inherited 30 pounds in the will of Uriah Bonham, her brother-in-law (both her sister's husband and her husband's brother), in whose will it was stated: To each of the daughters of Andrew Heath (late of Amwell, dec'd), he ve 30 pounds. These girls were Mary Wilson, Elizabeth Hall, Sarah Dills, and Prudence Bonham. This money, he said, was procured out of their father's estate for their use when their mother had done with it.

Prudence and her daughter Mercy (age 51yrs.) are found on the Mt. Pleasant, Wayne Co., PA 1850 census, page 17, house 80-86. She filed application for bounty land in Wayne Co., PA, Dec 4, 1856.

My interest in the Heath family is due to some land I have been researching. Will try to explain to you. Alexander McKim purchased 330 acres of land in Loudoun County Aug 1777 on Elk Licking Run also known as White Chimneys. Well when he died he left it to his son James McKim and his wife. Upon the death of the wife that part would also go to James. Well James McKim died without a will so therefore the land went to his only son William H McKim son of James McKim and Ruhamah Heath daughter of Andrew and Hannah Smalley. Well William H McKim left the 330 acres to Ruhamah his mother. Well 8 yrs after her death the McKims relatives of these other 2 McKims filed a Chancery Suit to try and recover the land well the case was dismissed as the McKims did not pay bond to go forward. So Ruhamah remained owener of this land in 1867 and she died in 1851 so according to the Chancery Suit there were many heirs so now I am trying to find out what heirs of Ruhamah got that land. Now there has been no deeds on this land from the time Alexander McKim purchased in 1777 until 1878 when Charles H Heath filed bankruptcy and sold his 20 acre share to a Thomas Settle. Well Thomas Settle tranferred that 20 acres to a Fanny Douglas his faithful servant. So you can see why the Heath family has been such an interest to me as I need to find that land and who owned it to put the deeds in my book to let the McKim family know what happened to Alexanders land. There are tons of McKim descendant researching this McKim family so the more I find and put in this book the more books I can sell. I am making a trip to Loudoun County the first week of the month to see if I can find any deeds for this land. I can not believe it has been this hard to find this 330 acres so God only knows who all got that land. The McKim family is my direct lineage and this is very important to me to find said land.

Now most of the names I am familiar with. The ones that are not ringing any bells are the Hawley, Popkins,Church, Baker son of Louisa formally Louisa Hawley the widow and children of Richard Heath are unknown. These are the ones that are creating a problem as I need to find out whom they are how they are related to Ruhamah and when they died and where they died, whom they married etc. I know this is a lot of heirs and I am sure all of them did not get a piece of that land. But I have to check all names to find out whom did. A lot of work I know but it has to be done. I love doing research it is my main hobby I do it every day.If you need anything please let me know. William was proficient in mathematics, and was the first to teach in the old school at Locktown, serving seven years. He was a silversmith and for years the postmaster at Baptistown, a position he held until his death. He lived in the house occupied in 1893 by James P. Gary. On 08 Sep 1841 the possessioms of his home in Baptistown were sold at public vendue by Ann Heath, his widow and administratrix of his estate. Lavinia Lair in Kingwood Township lived there until her death.

William married Nancy Ann Rittenhouse on 24 Jun 1820 in Kingwood Twp, Hunterdon Co, New Jersey. Jacob was bequeathed two-hundred dollars by his father, to be applied against the loan of four-hundred dollars for the purchase of a farm by Jacob twenty years previously, leaving a debt of two-hundred dollars to be paid to Richard's estate by acob. He was also to receive a portion of the residue of the estate.The tombstones marking the graves of Jacob and Lavinia have been removed from the small cemetery by the Baptistown Church and have been stored in the church basement; pictures of all the grave markers were taken before their removal and are being kept with the church records. Jacob and Lavinia lived on the road leading from Kingwood to Locktown,and living with them in 1850 was Mary E. Roberson,age 16.

Peter inherited from his father fourteen and a half acres, bought from Thomas West, for use during his lifetime and then to be passed on to his children in equal shares. He resided where Cornelius Rittenhouse was living in 1893. Peter was a cooper and worked in a shop a few yards east of his dwelling. In 1850 Susan Heath was living with her son, Reading, in Kingwood Township. She and Peter had three known sons and there may have been other children.

This inheritance was to pass on to George's son, Lewis Andrew, if he survived his fathe. Mary R. Heath was George's cousin, the daughter of Elijah and Catherine Heath. After her husbands death she lived with her son, Edward Mason, at his home in Locktown and died there at the age of ninety. She and George had seven known children.

That sheis the widow of Nathan L. Bonhham who was a 2nd Lieut. In Company M (?) Commanded by Nathan L. Bonham in the 5th Regiment of U.S. Colored Cav'y in the War of 1861; that her maiden name was Tobey and that she was married to said Nathan L. Bonham in or about the 19 day of Mch 1853 at Caton in the County of Steuben an dState of N.Y. by Rev. S. Tobey.....

"Portrait and Biographical Album of Jackson Co., Michigan" 1885, p.588 has a brief sketch of Edmund B. Cochran. He was said to have taken an unimproved and unbroken track of land, consisting of 137 acres, and built a beautiful home there. Before he became a farmer he studied in public and private schools, obtaining a good education for the times. He came to Michigan in the fall of 1844, felling trees and building a log cabin 11x16 feet, in which he lived as a bachelor for several years. In 1876 he began his larger home and married Clarissa E. Bonham, whose parents were early settlers in Maryland, her grandfather was a Rev. War soldier, a native of Pennsylvania and of French descent, while her mother, Dorcas Lane, was of Scotch and English ancestry and born in New York. Her father bought land in Concord Township, Jackson Co., Michigan, and built a log cabin in the woods. There after he purchased land in Tompkins Township, where he resided until his death, when Clarissa was 15 years old. The wife and mother and died four years earlier. Of their eight children, Cora died young, Edmund lived in Washington State, John in Texas, William a clergyman of the Free Methodist Church located in Jackson, MI, Emma, Charles and Mary stayed with their father at home and Fred J., at the time of this article was teaching near Detroit, Michigan. Mr. Cochran was a Republican.
The unpublished Cochran manuscript compiled by Emma and Mary Cochran,his sisters, said he had traveled to the eastern United States, visited Washington, DC, but decided to settle in Sandstone, Jackson, MI in 1844.

John and his brother Edmund came to Texas about 1878. He was for several years the postmaster at Rosser, TX. He was a very intelligent man, well
thought of in the community.
From "Kaufman County History" by the Historical Society in writings
about the town of Rosser, TX: it was in 1886 that Capt Rosser applied for a post-office, recommended John Cochran as the postmaster, and suggested the name Burton for the post office and town. The office was granted, John Cochran was appointed, but the town and post office name assigned was Rosser. There was already a Burton, TX. Mr. Cochran served a postmaster for two years and Capt. Rosser succeeded him. The post office was discontinued in 1889, but reopened in early 1892.
This history book continues: The chimney in the Cochran two story home was made of some bricks from the Montgomery Brick Plant located on the
Montgomery farm outside of Trinidad (later named Rosser, Tx). The main store building was located on what is now Cochran property. When the building was razed and the chimney dismantled, a human skull was found lodged in the chimney - one of the mysteries of pioneer life in a river town.

Notes for Nancy Elizabeth Stanford:
Nancy was orphaned by her mother when she was a small girl. Her father doted on her, teaching her to shoot a gun and ride a horse. My mother
told me about Nancy riding her horse when they lived in Northwestern
Alabama, and hearing the panthers scream in the wilderness. In a letter from Bess Fisher Dixon dated July 1987, she said that John Cochran was slightly over 6 feet tall, and Nancy was 5'2" or 5'3", thin and wiry and athletic looking. She never saw her Grandfather John without his full
beard.
Bess Fisher Dixon also wrote that Nancy was visiting relatives in
Kaufman Co., TX when she met her husband to be. There was mention of a
"Toog" Burton also of Kaufman County, unknown who this might be at this
time.

Emma grew up on a farm in Cottonwood, TX. She was the post mistriss in Rosser, TX for many years, beginning Nov. 3, 1944. The town of Rosser
began as the town of Trinidad in 1841. It was without postal service
from 1866 till June of 1886. Emma was intelligent, strong, and had a good sense of humor. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, and outdoors activities. She was divorced from her husband for many years, lived in Ennis and Dallas, before her death.

Notes for LEWIS MARSHALL FISHER:
When he was 26 years old, he married his first wife, but the tragic
deaths of his wife and new baby changed the course of his life. Lewis
owned a farm and worked as a barber during his first years married to
Emma Cochran.
During WWII, at about 60 years of age, Lewis did work similiar to a
merchant marine, working for the War Department, serving out of
Galveston, TX., as a deck hand on the Dredge "Manhattan". Lewis lived a
few years in DeQueen, Arkansas, where he worked as a farm hand around
1948.
In the 1950's, Lewis moved in with the Mauldin family in Dallas, and
lived with my family until he became ill and had to move to a nursing home. In all the years that I knew him, Grandpaw Lewis was a fun loving, but sometimes serious, man who loved to read, especially westerns. He always loved the old radio shows, variety and music. I learned to enjoy gospel music from listening to his radio with him. Many days when Ann and I would come home from school, he would pop us corn and visit with us. He told of coming to Texas from Illinois, and how difficult it was crossing the Red River in covered wagons. Lewis took Ann and I on a roller-coster ride when he was in his 70's, and he enjoyed it more than
we did. We also went with him to live music shows in the band shell at
Fair Park.
Shown on a work badge in old family files dated 1945, Cactus Ordinance Works, a Chemical Corp. for Brown & Root Inc. the following: a thumb
print, date of birth, 5'8" tall, 135 pounds, gray hair, blue eyes. As he
grew older and his hair whiter, he always wore his hair in a burr cut.

Served in WW I, in Co. D, 5th Reg of Engineers, first as private, then corporal, then sergeant. He saw battle in France. He is listed in "A War History of Company D 5th Regiment of Engineers" published April 1st, 1919 at Camp A. A. Humphrey. During the war, he was gassed in France with something that impared his lungs from then on (per letter from Bess Fisher Dixon dated July 8, 1987). During the earlier time he was in south Texas in the Army, and he was a part of a US expedition into Mexico chasing Pancho Villa.

In a letter to Ruth Fisher Mauldin dated 1968 from Palestine, TX, Ida May wrote: "I wanted Sis (Emma) to come live with me, but I'm glad she's moved near you. The only way I have of going any where is for one of the kids to take me. Since Noles died I don't call on James so often for he has two grown girls to take care of. One of these is still in school. The older one is engaged to be married but can't seem to make up her mind when. She brought him up to see me. I like him very much. His mother lives in Alabama & his dad in California. John has three girls - one married & teaching school. Nancy has five kids, two boys, and three
girls. Her older boy is married & has a baby boy. He is in service. She came to see me a short time ago and brought her daughter-in-law & the baby. He is just a picture of his daddy. Edward said when he gets his first leave of absence that he is going to bring Linda & the baby up & spend most of it with me. He told Linda to tell me that he still loved me & always would. It is so nice to have your grand kids love you. I feel so sorry for Nancy's mother-in-law. None of her kids or grand kids even like her. Guess I am doing as well as any old lady my age can
expect. I raise chickens to help furnish meat for me & my two dogs.
