    PARKER, MATTHEW (1801-1862). Matthew Parker, early Sabine County settler and official, was born in Franklin County, Georgia, on May 17, 1801, the son of Sarah (Wiley) and Jesse Parker. He moved to Texas about 1822 and received a league and a labor of land in what is now Sabine County. Parker's name appears on a July 8, 1836, roll of Capt. A. E. Collins's Company of Sabine Volunteers. He received an additional grant of land for this service, as well as several other grants, which conveyed to him land in Shelby, Harrison, and Cherokee counties. He was appointed chief justice of Sabine County by President Sam Houston on December 20, 1836. In 1840 he was elected by the legislature to serve with three other men on a Sabine County land board that was established to verify local land claims. On July 13, 1846, he was elected a county commissioner for Sabine. Parker married Mary Isaacks about 1821 and they had fourteen children. Mary died in 1845, and in 1846 Matthew married Elizabeth Lowe (or Low); they had four children in Cherokee County between 1847 and 1854. The family moved to the area of Nordheim, in DeWitt County, about 1855. Parker died on March 19, 1862, and was buried in the Taylor Cemetery, three miles south of Cuero.

    Mathew Arnold (17 May 1801 - 19__) married Mary Isaacs (c 1824) and they had 12 children: Mahala, Jesse, Morris Moore, Perry, Wiley Jefferson, Washington (Wilson) Laffeyette, Andrew Jackson, Alexander Hamilton, Sarah Elizabeth, William (Willis) Houston, Amanda, Mary (Molly) Samantha. After the death of Mary in 1845, Cherokee County, he married Elizabeth Lowe, and they had 4 children: Rebecca, Susan, Isaac Lowe and Margaret Ann.

    Robert Dueroc Brown was born May 6, 1878 in Goliad, Goliad County, Texas, to Robert A. Brown(b.1839, TN or TX)and Mary Samantha Parker (b. 1844, TX). He stood 5 feet 8 1/2 inches tall, had brown eyes, black hair, and a dark complexion. In 1910, Robert was a farmer in Goliad County. He had been a Customs inspector for 3 1/2 years and a deputy sheriff for 12 years . As of 1918, he was a city policeman in Mission. Robert was fluent in Spanish. He enlisted in the Texas Rangers as a Regular Ranger in Mission, Hidalgo County Texas, Jan. 1, 1920--July 31, 1920 (private, Co D), then resigned. Robert was then a Peace Officer in Brownsville, Cameron county, Texas. He again joined the Rangers as a Regular Ranger June 22, 1925--March 31, 1926, as a (seargent, Co. D.)and again resigned. Robert was married to Minnie Miram Fuller (b. 1879, TX) and had two children. He died of a gunshot wound, April 20, 1929 in Cameron County, Texas and is buried in Buena Vista Cemetery, in Brownsville.
