    Notes:

    i. George HINSON was born in 1808 in near Poorhouse, Fauquier County, Virginia. He was living in 1876 in Fauquier County, Virginia. He died on 3 September 1894 in near Poorhouse, Fauquier County, Virginia. Mrs. H.H. Ball says hr died at Marshall, Fauquier Co !NOTES: George Hinson is listed in will of James Hinson as the first of many children. He is shown in marriage records of Fauquier Co., VA. as having married Susan Ball, the ward of Enoch Smith, on 28 Nov. 1828. George Hinson's occupation is shown as schoolteacher.

There is another George W. Hinson, age 66. with other occupants of the same household recorded in Turner's District in the 1850 census. He is shown as a wheelwright. Other occupants are: Catharine, age 35, James R., 19 Napoleon, 17, George W. (Jr.), 12, Thomas I (or J), 10, William H., 8, Joseph W., 2, and Virginia, 6. This George is not likely to be the brother of the above first mentioned George, but he may have been a cousin or uncle. The early map of Fauquier Co., VA. shows a Hinson's shop in the northeast section of the county, which may be the same George W., the wheelwright's.

ii. James D. (Dulin?) HINSON57 was born on 9 October 1812 in Fauquier County, Virginia. He was living in 1850 in Lafayette County, Missouri.66 He was living in 1876 in Missouri. James died on 17 November 1877 in Dover, Lafayette County, Missouri. He was buried in Dover, Lafayette County, Missouri. ! The will of James Hinson of Rappahannock Co., Va. lists James D. Hinson as the third child. If tradition follows, this would be the third in line of date of birth. This would place him between Alcinda, who married Sidney Darnell 10 Apr 1836, and Narcissa. who married Smith Tharp. James D.'s date of marriage was 27 Oct 1847. As George was born in 1808, it would appear that James was born sometime between 1810 and 1820. The 1850 census of Lafayette Co., MO. shows him age 26, which would place him born in 1824.
A broken and fallen headstone at the Dover Cemetery shows a J. D. b 9 Oct 1812, and d. 7 Sept 1880. (Another note says he died 17 Nov 1877.) It was thought by Ida Alma Johnson Campbell, daughter of Mary Frances Hinson, that this grave was for James D. Hinson, the brother of her grandfather, Bushrod H. Hinson.

Family tradition is that he and his wife had no children.

iii. Alcinda HINSON57 was born about 1813 in Fauquier County, Virginia. She died about 1860 in Amissville, Rappahannock County, Virginia.

iv. Narcissa\Narcissus "Cecy" HINSON was born about 1815 in Fauquier County, Virginia. She died before 1875 in Prince William County, Virginia. She was living in 1876 in Fauquier or Prince William County, Virginia. !Source: Will of James Hinson, 1863 filed in Fauquier Co., VA. Will of her husband shows his wife, Emma, which will was filed in 1889. It is probable that Emma was the second wife of Smith H. Tharpe, and that Narcissa had died sometime between 1863 and 1889.

    v. Mary Margaret HINSON was born on 12 February 1816 in Fauquier County, Virginia. She was living in 1876 in Orange County, Virginia. She was buried in June 1886 in Baptist Church, Amissville, Rappahannock County, Virginia. Mary died on 26 June 1886 in Amissville, Rappahannock County, Virginia. !Source: A memo entitled "The Jeffries Family" probably written by Joseph Arthur Jeffries, in about 1900. It recites that the children of Mary Margaret Hinson and James Jeffries, Jr. were Frederick, James William, John Albert ( who was known to the John Albert Johnson family as "Ab"), Joseph Arthur, Elizabeth Ann (who later was Mrs. A. Z. Gardner), Mary M., Agnes Mayo ( who was later known as Ms. W Carley), Milton Fitzhugh, Richard F. and Andrew. See also book entitled "Joseph Arthur Jeffries, Fauquier Co., 1840-1919, edited and compiled by Helen Jeffries Klitch, San Antonio, Tex.1989.
She is buried at the Amissville Baptist Church graveyard, which is near to her Rappahannock County home "Scotia" (Latin for Scotland) on the north side of the road leading to the old Hinson mill and ford across the Rappahannock River. During the Civil War she and her husband moved the family to near Orange Courthouse, Orange County, for safety reasons, as the Union soldiers frequently foraged through the countryside in Fauquier and Rappahannock Counties.

See also book entitled "Joseph Arthur Jeffries, Fauquier Co., 1840-1919", edited and compiled by Helen Jeffries Klitch, San Antonio, Tex.1989.

vi. Elizabeth Jane "Eliza" HINSON67 was born in 1817 in Fauquier County, Virginia. She was living in 1876 in Rappahannock County, Virginia. She died after December 1876 in Howard County, Missouri. Will and Estate records show that Isiah Corbin, Joseph F. Hinson, Joseph Basye, William H. Roberts and Armistead Corbin were appointed by the court to appraise the estate of Elizabeth W. Singleton. Joseph F. Hinson was the brother of Elizabeth Hinson Singleton, and the Basyes and Corbins were related through marriage. Purchasers of property of the estate were A. R. Singleton, Turner A. Jones, Isaiah Corbin, Joseph F. Hinson, Francis M. Jeffries, William H. Roberts, Joseph Basye and Elijah Tapp. on 15 May 1850. Elizabeth J. Singleton, the wife of Albert R. Singleton, was mentioned in litigation in chancery court of Rappahannock Co., Va. in Dec. 1876, in which the distribution of land in the estate of James Hinson, father of Elizabeth Jane Singleton, was disputed. It may well be that the Elizabeth W. Singleton above-mentioned was the mother of Albert R. Singleton, as in this litigation John R. Miller was mentioned as the trustee of Elizabeth J. Singleton. This would indicate that she was still living in 1876.

vii. Charles W.(William?) HINSON was born between 1820 and 1825 in Fauquier County, Virginia. He died between 1870 and 1880 in Lafayette County, Missouri. He was living in 1876 in Missouri. !Charles W. Hinson married Narcissus Ann Johnson (Sissie, or Secy). It is not known whether she was a sister of Chapman Johnson, but this is possible. The couple moved to Missouri from Rappahannock Co., VA. The first documented presence in Missouri was when they purchased land 15 Nov 1847, about 120 acres. See Deed Book M, p. 181; and Deed Book V, p. 102. E. half of N/W 1/4 Sec 27, R. 25, Twp. 51, sold 2 Dec. 1853. 1880 census of Lafayette Co., Mo. shows C. A. Hinson, a widow, age 55, Line 158-162, Waverly Township, p.16. with two sons, Spencer, age 22 and Lee, age 18. Apparently by this time Charles was deceased. as he is mentioned in a letter of Joseph Hinson in 1870.
Marriage records of Lafayette County, MO. show a C. W. Hinson married to Mary H. Saper 13 June 1878. It may be that this is the son of Charles W. Hinson.

    viii. Huldah Ann HINSON.

ix. John G.(George?) HINSON was born in 1822/3 in Culpeper County, Virginia. He was living in 1850 in Rappahannock County, Virginia.36,59
Occupation listed as "Miller". He was living in 1860 in Rappahannock County, Virginia.
Census shows him, his wife and children living in the household of James Hinson. John was living in 1876 in Rappahannock County, Virginia. He died after 1880.
John G. Hinson married Lucy A. (Sallie) Grigsby 10 Dec, 1848, in Rappahannock Co., Virginia, per marriage records, and family tradition. After Bushrod Hinson, his brother, and Sarah Ellen Miller Hinson left Virginia and came to Missouri in about 1852, John G. took over as the "miller" at the Hinson family grist mill near Amissville, Va. on the Rappahannock River. The 1860 census shows him still there with children: James H., age 12, John M., age 10, Eliza, age 8, Florence, age 6, Sarah. age 4. and Anna, age 1. It appears that John M. (Marion) ("Matt") came to Missouri in 1872, locating in Lafayette County, where he was a farmer. (Family tradition as related by his grand-daughter, Jeanne Hinson Irish).
On 16 February 1847 James M and Vienna (Parker) Grigsby and also Narcissa B Grigsby sold to John G. Hinson, 64 acres out of the Henry Grigsby survey. this tract of land was that of the dower interest of Frances, the widow of Henry Grigsby. She by this time was herself, deceased. It will be noted that John G. Hinson married Lucy A Grigsby, owner of Tract No. 3 of the Grigsby survey, consisting of 64 acres on 10 December 1846.

Henry N & Frances Grigsbyr sold to John G. Hinson, 64 acres of land from the dower interest of Frances Grigsby, widow, on 25 November 1847, out of the Grigsby survey. This was the same land as related as having also been sold by James M and Narcissa.

On 8 May 1856, John G. Hinson gave a deed of trust as security for his debts, considerable personal property, household goods and 64 acres of land to Joseph A. Grimsely for the benefit of James Hinson and others. This property was sold by the trustee 4 November 1856, the purchasers being James Hinson for 64 acres of land, the other purchasers of personal property being Turner A. Jones, James Hinson, Franklin Pierce , Henry G. Jones, etc. This land was that which was formerly the dower interest of Frances Grigsby.

The will of James Hinson bequeathed back to John G. Hinson, 54 acres out of the 64 acres he had previously acquired at the trustees sale, due to the fact that Lucy A. Hinson had repaid him.

As late as July, 1875 John G. Hinson is still involved in litigation in the Chancery Court of Fauquier Co., VA. with the heirs of his father, James Hinson. This litigation involved the distribution of the assets of the estate of James Hinson, deceased, of which John G. Hinson was one of the executors.

    x. Joseph F. (Francis?) HINSON was born about 1825 in prob. Fauquier County, Virginia. He died in prob. Jackson, Hinds County, Mississippi.
Joseph is one of the sons of James Hinson. He married Hannah Bayse. He moved from Virginia to near Jackson, Mississippi. apparently before the Civil War. Source: Lucille Wahrenbrock, Jewell, Iowa (1991). It is reported that he had no children, however, the census of Rappahannock Co., VA. in 1850, Family No. 770, taken Nov 1850, shows that he had a daughter, age 1, whose name appears to be "Falsona". On 30 Mar 1853 he was one of the purchasers of property from the estate of Henry Jones in Rappahannock Co., VA. Book C, p.331, when he purchased a Buffalo Cow. His occupation in the 1850 census shows that he was a blacksmith.
    6
    xi. Bushrod H.(Henry?) "Bush" HINSON.

xii. Mildred Catherine HINSON was born on 28 January 1831 in Culpeper County, Virginia. She was living in 1876 in Missouri. She died on 22 September 1918 in Corder, Lafayette County, Missouri. Source: Lucille Wahrenbrock, Jewell, Iowa. (1991), Census Lafayette Co., Mo. 56th District, 1880. By reason of Mary Eliza being born in Virginia, in 1852/53 and the next being born in Missouri, it is assumed they family removed from Virginia to Missouri in about 1854 or 1855.
