Relocated to Washington Co., Pa in 1779, after having served a tour in the Pennsylvania Regiment. David Lee Barnhill referrs to this Samuel as"Samuel Jr." This is the same Samuel M. Barnhill. He re-enlisted in the Pennsylvania Regiment to help in the effort to rid the territory of marauding Indians. Continued to serve until 1782. Found on the 1795 tax list of Scott Co., Ky. Service record of the revolutionary war finds him living in Scott Co., Ky. in 1840 at the age of 82. This puts his birth year at 1758. Pension started Jan. 9, 1833 at age 74. This also puts his birth year at 1758. Initial "M" is thought to be "Marcus". (Not documented) Other source says Samuel is buried at Stoner Creek cemetery at Muddy Ford north of Georgetown, Ky. This is the Samuel Barnhill referred to in the Kentucky Historical Sosiety's library at Frankfort as having "settled at Muddy Ford with two brothers". From "Abstracts Of Pension Papers of Soldiers of the Revolutionary War, 1812 and Indian Wars of Scott County, Kentucky" - abstracts by Annie Walker Burns Bell...Page 2 "The above named soldier was living in the county of Scott, State of Kentucky, when he applied for pension on the date of November 15th, 1832, aged 72 years. He states that he was born in the county of Bucks, State of Pennsylvania, date of October 29th, 1761. He enlisted in the county of Cumberland, state of Pennsylvania." Samuel moved to Scott County, Kentucky about 1790 with two brothers, Robert and Daniel - based on historical documents regarding the early settlers of Scott County found in the Kentucky Historical Society's library at Frankfort. Samuel Barnhill Jr. was released from military service in Washington County, Pennsylvannia in 1782. He and 2 brothers Robert and Daniel Barnhill are on the 1794 and 1795 tax records of Scott County, Kentucky. Jane, their sister who married Hugh Sharon, Came to Scott County, Kentucky in 1797 from Mifflin County, Pennsylvannia.
