    Joseph "Joel" Herndon lived until 26 October 1906. It took a lot of searching for me to figure this out! He was committed to Western State Hospital (insane asylum) in 1874 by legal proceedings in Fauquier County, VA. (I have copies of these records.) There he lived for the next 32 years; and he is buried in the cemetery there to this day. Also, we have good reason to believe that his full name was actually Joseph Thaddeus Herndon and that "Joel" was merely a nickname.

    "Nancy" was Joseph "Joel's" second wife, and they were not married until the 1864-1865 timeframe. Joseph "Joel" Herndon married a distant cousin, Elizabeth C. Clemons, in December of 1853, and that marriage lasted until her untimely death at age 20 in October 1856.

    CHARLES N. HERNDON
    Charles Nathaniel Herndon, 81, of 3 1-4 mile Sothmost Road died at his residence Monday. He was born in Spencer County, Ky.
    He is survived by a son Clyde Herndon of Bardstown, KY and a daughter, Mrs. Karl Bennett, Sr., of Taylorsville, KY.
    Funeral services are pending and will be announced by the Houghlin Funderal Home of Bloomsfield, KY. Burial will be in the Valley Cemetery in Taylorsville, KY.
    Local arrangements are under the direction of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home.

    Religion:
    Brother Herndon was my childhood minister and is who baptized me and my family in the 1950s.

    This building was the home of my childhood church, predominantly in the 1950s. I was baptised here when I was 9 years old in 1956, along with my parents, my grandparents, aunt, uncle and cousin.
    During all the time that we attended, our beloved minister was the Reverend Presley Fisher Herndon. A little bio on him is he was born 9 Apr 1886 in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, and was married to Hattie C. He was a minister in Paris, Lamar Co, Texas, during the 1920s until the around 1937 or so, before becoming minister of WBCC in Beaumont between 1937 and 1940 where he remained pastor until the early/mid '60s. Sometime before his death in 1968 he had been replaced as minister by the church board; and assumption is that he retired at that point. He died on New Year's Eve, 1968 at the age of 82 and was buried in Magnolia Cemetery on Jan 3, 1969. His wife, Hattie (b 1891-KY), had precedeased him. They never had any children.
