The story is that Vada (my grandmother) and her siblings were raised in the orphanage in Macon county. My grandmother left the orphanage a a young teen to help a man David Shaw take care of his sick wife. When Vada was 17, her mother Samatha got sick. Vada went toll her back to Macon and took care of her until she died. After she died she brought her to Ky and buried her 1 mile from where she would be living. She wanted her close to her so she could take care of her. I temeber my mother and her saving the money to buy the stone. She married Davis Shaw after his wife died.

Vada married Davis Albert Shaw about 1838. Davis was born about 1918; died before 2013 in Allen Co, Kentucky. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Derenia A. Davis, 71, of Scottsville, KY died at 9:33 A.M. Saturday, December 14, 2013 at Commonwealth Regional Specialty Hospital in Bowling Green, KY. The Scottsville, KY native was a retired employee of A.O. Smith and General Electric, a former employee of Allen County War Memorial Hospital and member of Maple Grove General Baptist Church.

She was a daughter of the late David Albert Shaw and Vada Virginia Uhles Shaw. She is survived by her husband of 40 years: Eugene Davis, Scottsville, KY; 3 sons: David "Dave" Hoskins and Darren Davis and wife, Gwen, all of Scottsville, KY; Delbert Hoskins and wife, Lisa, Ft. Lee, VA;1 daughter: Debra "Debbie" Hoskins Rigsby and husband, Tom, Lawrenceburg, KY; 1 step son: Calvin Davis, Adolphus, KY; 1 sister: Sandra Oliver and husband, Jim, Adolphus, KY; 1 sister-in-law: Patsy Shaw, Scottsville, KY; 5 grandchildren: Matt Hoskins, Dustin Hoskins, Samantha Rigsby, Zachary Rigsby & Whitney Davis; 1 great grandson: Carson Hoskins; 4 step grandchildren, 2 nieces & 1 nephew;

She was preceded in death by 1 brother: Tony Shaw and 1 step grandson.

Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at Goad Funeral Home with Bro. Richard Lynn Herrington officiating and burial in Allen County Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be after 1:30 P.M. Monday at Goad Funeral Home.
