Will:
In the name of God Amen. I Milton Young of the county of Smith and state of Tennessee being old and far advised (advanced?) in life and somewhat [ ? ] but sound in mind and memory for which I think calling to mind the uncertainty of
human life and being [ ? ] to [ ? ] of all such worldly goods as the Lord has been pleased to bless me with do make this my last will and testament in the manner and form following (that is) first I commission my soul to God who give it and my body to be buried in a decent Christian like manner at home in my own burying ground by my two sons and
to pay all my last debts if there is any against me.

Secondly I give and bequeath to my wife NANCY YOUNG the use of my plantation house where I now live together with as much furniture as she wants, also two feather beds and furniture, one cow and calf, cart and oxen, one [ ? ] filly
that I got of Edge [?] Cornwell, one sow and pits, and as many hogs as will make her meat the first year to be given her by the executors. Also as many of the farming tools as will be sufficient to make a crop, also two of the Negroes such as she may choose during her life of widowhood to have the use of the same. Also twenty-five dollars from Taudry R. Witcher (Tandy K. Witcher?]

Thirdly I give and bequeath to my daughter CELIA BROCKETT the sum of three hundred dollars to be raised out of the sale of my property.

Fourth I give and bequeath to my son DANIEL YOUNG the sum of three hundred dollars to be raised by the sale of my property.

Fiftly I give and bequeath to my son CYRUS a [ ? ] tract of land on the east side of the land where he now lives to begin [ ? ] poles from his [ ? ] mulberry and this [ ? ] with his line nearly north so as to be as wide at one and as the other which I gave him, I think it is worth three hundred dollars.

Sixly I give and bequeath to my son WILLIAM YOUNG the sum of three hundred dollars to be raised out of the sale of my property.

Seventh I give and bequeath to my daughter SUSANNA D. PIPKIN the sum of three hundred dollars to be raised out of my property.

Eighth I give and bequeath to my daughter ELIZABETH S. KEARBY one [ ? ] yearling colt also three hundred dollars to be raised out of my property.

Ninth I give and bequeath to my son MERLIN [ ? ] YOUNG one feather bed and furniture to be given him by his mother. Also one tract of land that I bought of William Inkins [ ? ] containing 100 acres more or less which land I judge to
be worth three hundred dollars.

Tenth I give and bequeath to my son ICHABOD YOUNG a [ ? ] entry of land on the east end of the land where he now lives for 30 acres which together with the land I have given him I think is worth three hundred dollars.

Eleventh I give and bequeath to my son HALEY YOUNG one cow and calf, one feather bed and furniture to be given him by his mother, one grey mare and colt that is called his own, one [ ? ] of the hogs taking them as they come little and big, [ ? ] and bookcase together with all my books, one folding table, the house clock and one bed stead, also the land and plantation where I now live after his mother's death, a small tract of 2/or/12 acres on the west side of the plantation and 50 acres of school land on the south end of the plantation all except the land he is to have [ ? ] off immediately after my death and the plantation at his mother's death. All the rest of my property that is not given away in my will is to be sold as soon as [ ? ] after my death a 12 months credit money when collected to be divided between CELIA, DANIEL, WILLIAM, SUCKY, BETSEY until they get three hundred dollars each. If when the property is all sold there should be any money left to be equally divided with CELIA, DANIEL, CYRUS, WILLIAM, MERLIN, ICHABOD, and HALEY.

And lastly I constitute and appoint my sons DANIEL, CYRUS, WILLIAM, MERLIN, ICHABOD, and HALEY executors of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all other former wills and testaments by me before made in [ ? ] whereof I have [ ? ] my hand and [ ? ] this January 1833.

Merlin Young Born 17 Nov 1767 in Virginia Died 15 Sep 1841 in Medon, Madison County, Tennessee. Buried in VANTRESE YOUNG CEMETERY, Medon, Madison County, Tennessee.
In Merlins will, recorded in Madison County, TN pg 468 he names Milton Young as his son and William Tandy Young as his grandson. In the Young Family Cemetery near Medon, Madison, TN. a small cemetery enclosed by an iron fence and graves well marked can be found. Here the graves of Merlin Young, wife Tabitha Witcher, Son: Sherriff Benj Franklin Young (father of Louisa Young and Frank Young), Benjamin's wife Nancy Comer Young, their son Mastin Comer Young and his wife Pheribe Ann Stephens Young. Directions to cemetery: South of Medon approx 1 mile to Swink Road, turn left. Go 1/2 mile down Swink Road to sharp right turn. At this turn there is small dirt road that turns left. Go less than 1/4 mile down dirt road bearing right at any fork. Cemetery is in woods on right side of field clearing with fence around it. On Jan 12, 2002 I visited the gravesite and found headstones for Merlin which had been broken off but leaning up against fence and a foot stone in place, Tabithas head stone was missing. The base was in place and a footstone was found with letter T Y on it. Benjamin F. Young Sr. and wife Nancy Youngs stone was present and in good shape except for an ornament that had been on top had broken off and was laying on ground. Terry D, M.D. and Peribe Young stones were all in place. Merlin was the son of William Young of Pittsylvania Co., Virginia, who was a Sgt. in the Virginia Militia under Col. Logan; his wife Tabitha was the daughter of William Witcher of England, who served in the Virginia Militia, and became Brevet Colonel.

He was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, on December 5, 1884, the son of Robert E. and Cora May Erion Barnard and is of English and German extraction. He attended Memphis and Shelby County High Schools; and attended Macon and Andrews Business College and has completed special correspondence courses. He received the Certified Public Accountant Certificate (Tenn) in 1925. On July 2, 1905, he was married to Allie Haughton of Spring Creek, Tennessee, and to this union have been born three children, namely: Mary Virginia (Mrs. R.B. Obituary: Little Rock attorney Paul L. Barnard , 68, 5200 "H" died Saturday in a Little Rock hospital. Barnard was a former legislative assistant to Sen. Brooks Hays, a member of the Pulaski County Democratic Committee, the Pulaski County Tuberulosis Association and the board of deacons and board of trustees of the Second Baptist Church. Funeral will be at 1pm Monday at the Second Baptist Church by Rev. Dr. Dale Cowling. Active pallbearers will be Frank Wills, B.T. Jacson, Lyle Hayden, Sam Harris, Omar Hill and Harry Gladden. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Brooks Hays Bible Class, deacons of the church, members of the Pulaski County Bar Association, Bill Hood and Wayne Foster. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park by Griffin-Leggett. A native of Memphis, Barnard was the son of the late Robert Edgar Barnard and Cora Minnette Erion Barnard. The well known Little Rock attorney attended Memphis public schools and graduated from night law school at Little Rock in 1922. While attending law school, Barnard was secretary to Mayor Ben D. Brickhouse and served in that position for two years after his graduation. In 1924 he set up his law practice which continued for over 25 years with the exception of the years 1943-1945 when he was an assistant to Congressman Hays. For a time, Barnard was a law partner of Judge Harper E. Harb, now deceased, until the judge retired. On occasion, Barnard acted as special judge for Harb when the jurist was unable to hold court. Barnard later formed a partnership with his first cousin Linwood L. Brickhouse, now deceased. Barnard's legal practice was confined largely to probate work of which he was considered an authority.

Earl R. Barnard of Memphis, brother of Paul L. Barnard, secretary to Mayor Ben D. Brickhouse, has been appointed Inspector of Police at Memphis. For a year prior to promotion Mr. Barnard was lieutenant of the Memphis detective force. He was at one time connected with the Missouri Pacific special service department at Little Rock, and he is well known here as well as by practically all peace officers of this state. In his present position Inspector Barnard is subordinate only to the chief of police and police commissioner and is in direct charge of the entire uniformed police force, consisting of about 250 men.
