    Frank Joseph Courts, 56, of Middleburg, who retired as a vice president of SunTrust Securities in 2002, died May 5 at Inova Loudoun Hospital at Lansdowne.


    Mr. Courts was born Sept. 9, 1949, in Beaumont, Texas, to the late Clinton C. Courts and the late Marie Overstreet Hebert. He served in the U.S. Army from 1970 to 1973. He received a Master of Arts and a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Virginia.

    Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Tayloe Courts of Middleburg; two daughters, Elizabeth T. Courts of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Anne B. Courts of Portland, Ore.; a son, John D. Courts of Middleburg; four sisters, Mary G. Courts and Billie M. Reed, both of Beaumont, June C. Moore of Sacramento, Calif., and Carriall A. Payne of Buna, Texas.

    Mr. Courts was buried in Ivy Hill Cemetery in Upperville.
