    Notes:

Jansonne, Joachim (Habraham [Abraham} & Elenore Lesage - from here, legitimate according to the laws of the state) b 13 Aug 1816, bt 29 May 1817 Pats: Moise Jeanson & Anne Robert from America; Mats: Joseph Lesage from Natches & Cecile Heber from Pointe Coupee; spons: Joachim Heber pere (Sr.) & Marie Fontenau, his wife. Fr. Michel Bernard Barriere (Opel Ch. v2. p 104)

from Carole Knight: Nothing in his actual baptism record shows that he was legitimate; I don't know where that came from; it was probably an editorial note made by some subsequent priest.

In checking information posted about this family, someone "created" a marriage date -- and after searching for two years, I couldn't find it anywhere!! In complete frustration, I made a special trip to the Opelousas church and checked EACH and EVERY page from January 1814 to December 1817 and found no marriage record for Eleanore or Abraham and no further information about Joachim/Benjamin. At that moment in time there was no other way for a marriage to have occurred and she was VERY catholic and Joachim was raised Catholic; if she had been married, it would have been noted at her marriage to Fruge, there would have been a Succession; there would have been a family council and a natural and undertutor. Since none of those things happened, it appears it was a liason, not a marriage ... and they were VERY young. Later records about Joachim/Benjamin reveal he was raised a Catholic; hence the ease in tracking him and his through the 1800's.
    _____
At his untimely death in 1856 or 57, he left several children of tender age (Louisa, Francois, Bennett, Benjamin, John and Benoit) “in helpless condition”. She was appointed natural tutor and Louis Lavergne was appointed undertutor. His godfather Joachim Hebert conducted and attested to the estimative inventory which at sale resulted in the buy-back by the widow of several items including the crop of corn, an acre of potatoes, a creole horse, a caleche and a double barrel gun.
