    A former Altontian, Charles Elery Sheff, 67, died Wednesday afternoon at West Los Angeles, Ca lif., according to word received by Alton area relatives. He had been in ill health for som e time, and a daughter, Mrs. Adeline Drury of Godfrey, had been in West Los Angeles attendin g him since Thanksgiving.
    Mr. Sheff was born May 3, 1890 at Eldred. He was married to Laura Ellen Snider in Alton, an d they would have observed their 48th anniversary of their marriage, Dec. 22, had he lived.
    With his family he moved from Alton to California in 1939. He had been eomplyed here for a n umber of years by Hyndman Ice and Coal Co. In California he had been in the trucking business .
    In addition to his widow and daughter, Mrs. Drury, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Marc ella Bennett and Mrs, Marlene Baker, Los Angeles; six sons, Chester, Harold, Leroy, Paul, Dav id and Richard, all of California; two sisters, Mrs. Edith Nicholson of Edgar Springs, Mo., a nd Mrs. Lily Romane, Franklin Spur, .III.; 26 grandchildren, and four greatgrandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by a son, Robert.
    Funeral services and burial will be at Santa Monica, Calif.
    The body is at Kingsley Ð Gales Funeral Homo, Santa Monica.

    Robert Sheff Dies At Hamilton. Mont.
    Former Alton Man Succumbs to Gunshot Wound
    Mrs. Ralph Drury of Godfrey received word Sunday of the death of her brother, Robert Sheff o f Hamilton, Mont., formerly of Alton.
    Sheff, a veteran of World War II. had been in ill health since his release from the service . Death was due to a gunshot wound,
    Sheff was born in Alton, Oct. 2, 1912, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Elery Sheff of Los Angeles, Cali f., for many years residents of Alton.
    Robert Sheff attended the Alton schools and was a student at Alton High School before enlisti ng in the
    navy at tho age of 17. While residing in California he was employed by MGM studios. During th e time
    he was In service he had served for 18 months on the Island of Luzon.
    Surviving, in addition to his parenis, are his widow, Mrs. Eva Bean Sheff; a daughter, Lamar , 17, and a son, Bobby, 10, three sisters, Mrs. Adallne Drury and Misses Marlene and Marcel la Sheff, Los Angeles, and six brothers, Chester, Leroy, Harold, Paul, David, and Richard, a ll of Los Angeles,
    Funeral rites will be held Wednesday at Hamilton, Mont.

    Born Jan. 20, 1917, in Madison, Ill., he moved to Shasta County from Martinez in 1973.
    He was employed by Hercules Powder Co. in Hercules.
    Survivors include wife Mildred; sons Charles of Redding, Carl of Petaluma and LeRoy Jr. of Ma rtinez; several brothers and sisters; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
    Arrangements are being handled by McDonald's Redding Chapel.

    Born in Alton, Ill., he lived in Millville for more than 30 years.
    Mr. Sheff was a retired heavy equipment operator and truck driver for the Carl Garrison and S on Transportation Co. He was also an avid fisherman.
    Surviving are his wife, Ella; three sons Harrold F. of Margate, Richard M. of Elmer and Chest er F. of Millville; four daughters, Anna Pitts of Seabrook, Louise Bruce of Bridgeton, Mildre d Duttko and Dianne Simonini, both of Vineland; four brothers, Leroy, David and Richard, al l of California and Paul of Lousiana; three sisters, Adeline Drury of Illinois and Marsella B ennett and Marlene Baker, both of California; 16 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren .
    Services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Rocap Shannon Memorial Funeral Home, Millville, w here friends may call at 1 p.m. Burial will follow in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Millville.

    LeRoy O. Sheff Jr. February 11, 1944 - May 9, 2003 LeRoy passed away peacefully in his Martin ez home after a long illness. LeRoy had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge which caused hi m to be an avid reader and trivia buff. He loved the outdoors and preferred to be in the moun tains. He had a quick wit and often offered an embarrassing one liner. LeRoy was preceded i n death by his father, LeRoy Sheff Sr., and his son, Leeo Sheff who passed November 30, 199 8 at the age of 26. LeRoy is survived by: his mother Mildred; and brothers Carl and Charles ; his wife of 33 years Sharlene; children, Kip, Duane, Richelle, Michelle, and Tonya; and 1 8 grandchildren who will miss him desperately. A celebration of his life will be held on Ma y 15, 2003 at 2:00 pm.
