Note: Carisade Ruth or Ruthe and her sister Penelope/Penny appear to have married two Williams brothers. The hand me down story is that Ruthe's husband, William H Williams left her for another woman. Ruthe then moved back to Ellisville Ms to work in the state children's home. Ruthe [Williams] is in Texas on the 1880 Nacogdoches Census as Mother-in-Law to Daniel Young. This is a work in progress as much is still needed to be proven. Carisade Landrum/Williams is on the 1850 Wayne Co Ms Census with two children, living next door to Henry Landrum, her father. William Williams is on the 1850 Jones Co Ms Census in the house hold of Thomas Williams, his father. Family problems is my only speculation. Penny/Penelope Landrum is also living with the Thomas Williams family in 1850 and will marry John Byrd Williams in Tyler Co Tx. kw

Note:
John Williams has some interesting Civil War History to tell. He and his Mothers brothers fought on both sides, first as a Confederate and later switching to the Union side. The widow of his Uncle Thomas Landrum, is Martha Jane Johnson/Britt, and she is applying for a pension.

"Deposition D. Case of of Martha J Landrum No 884794
On this 7th day of January, 1904 at Ovett, County of Jones, State of Miss., before me appeared John Williams, who being by me first duly sworn to answer truly all interrogatories propounded to him during this special examination of aforesaid claim for pension, deposes and says: (the following is handwritten).
I am 56 years old. Occupation, Merchant. Post Office, Ovett, Miss.
I have known Thomas Landrum all my life for I was raised near him in this county and we served together in both the Confederate and Union armies. After his discharge form the Union service he lived twelve miles from me until he moved to Louisiana and I saw him occasionally. Thomas Landrum was twice married-his first wife was Sarah Crosby being my cousin and his second wife was a woman I saw a few times but had no personal acquaintance with her and don't know her maiden name or anything about her. Sarah Crosby his first wife died in New Orleans La. and I was present. I served in Co --- of the 1st N. O. La. Vol. Inf. and Landrum in Co. D and we were stationed at New Orleans when Sarah came there and died. It was in 1864 - the latter part of the year if I ain't badly mistaken. She contracted small pox and lingered two weeks before dying and I was at their own house several times which was near Wood's old Cotton Press on Canal St. Landrum remained single after her death until his marriage to the woman who is now his widow. I was not present at their marriage. Don't recollect how long after it took place I saw them the first time. Know i saw them a number of times before they moved to Louisiana and they were living together as man & wife without dispute. I have not seen them since they left this state. I don't know whether his last wife had been previously married or not. I never knew her family intimately enough to find out about her.
Thomas Landrum and I served in an C.S.A. Artillery Regiment but I forget the number of it. I think it was called the Mobile Regiment of Artillery. John D Haynie was our Capt.. K Emanuel 1st Lt,, Morris 3rd Lt,, No Privates are now living here. Pinkney Landrum, William Dement. George P Smith & James Law were members of the Company. Landrum and I enlisted in the Confederate Army voluntarily and deserted them voluntarily to go into the Union side. He was never in but one regiment on the Union side - the 1st N.O. La. Inf. I have no interest in this claim. My former affidavit as read is correct. He read this deposition and my answers are recorded correctly.

Mary went by her middle name, Jane, born in May of 1848 as found on the 1900 Vernon Parish La Census. Debbie Martin found this family and furnished me with a copy of the actual census. Jane had been married 30 years in 1900 and had 8 children f whom 6 were still living. Also on this census is a Niece by the name of Dora Young, 15 and born December 1884 in Texas as was her Ma and Pa. So who is she? kw

A.J. Means from Tennessee, b 1838, and Robert S b 1845 in Texas. The children's entries for place of birth for father reflect this distinction. Indication is that perhaps A.J. died, or marriage ended, and she married younger brother. Considering the brothers' birth states, their family came to Texas sometime after 1838 but before 1845.
