    Notes:

MYLO SKINNER was born 1789 in New York, and died Bef. 1850 in Greenwood Twp, Christian Co, IL. He married POLLEY KICE. She was born 10 May 1800 in Vermont, and died 29 Oct 1875 in Christian Co, IL.

Married in New York and had two children there. Moved to Ohio where two more children were born, then came to Illinois between 1837 and 1841 where another child was born.

He was listed as one of the first early settlers of Greenwood Township, named in the 1918 History of Christian County. Milo took title to 40 acres of land in the NE qtr. of Section 20 in Greenwood Township; but he eventually acquired about 500 acres in the area, most of it in or near Section 17.
Skinner School, a one room country school, was located on the south edge of Section 17 and presumably named for Milo or one of his sons. (Linda Randles)

With the information I have, I'm thinking that Mylo Skinner is my husband's g-g-grandfather. His sons were: Edwin R, Joseph N, and Morris F and daughters were: Lucy I and Elvira as listed in the 1850 Illinois Census (Christian County, District 22).

In Christian County Genealogical Society Qrtly, Vol 3, # 3, it states that Milo visited younger children and family in MO in 1870 and died while there. Have not been able to verify.

According to the dates and places of birth, I'm almost certain that Joseph N Skinner (b. 5 Nov 1834 in Ohio) must be Jasper N Skinner, married to Julia Ann Busby. They can be found in the 1870 Newton Co, MO census.

Please let me know if you think Jasper is the same as Joseph. Jasper died in IL in 1902. Would appreciate any information available. Thanks!

MORRIS P. SKINNER (deceased) was born in Franklin County, Penn., July 11, 1811; son of Enoch and Elizabeth (Wilson) Skinner. When he was but five years of age his father died, and when he was eleven years old he was thrown on his own resources. He learned the tanner's trade at Loudonville, Penn., and came to Seneca County, Ohio, in 1832, settling in what is now the limits of Fostoria, and embarked in the tanner's business, which he conducted for several years. He then engaged in farming and teaming, and cleared anal improved a tract of forty acres (the homestead, which is a part of the lot, is now occupied by his widow).

Mr. Skinner was twice married; by his first wife. Mary, daughter of John and Margaret Gorsuch, he had three children: Wilson, Elizabeth (Mrs. Charles Olmsted) and Mary A. (Mrs. C. C. Nestlerode), His second marriage was with Jane M. Searles, who was born March 20, 1821, and is said to have been the first white child born in Eden Township, this county; her parents, John and Jane (Duncan) Searles. settling there in 1820. To this union were born five children: Clara J. (Mrs. A. E. Ebersole), Louesa M. (Mrs. A. C. McClean), William M.. Frank J. (deceased) and Orlo D. (deceased).

Mr. Skinner was a self-made man, and by industry and frugality amassed a fine property. He was representative of this county to the Legislature in 1859; held the office of county commissioner two terms, and was justice of the peace for several years. In politics he was always a stanch Democrat.

He died April 17, 1876, in his sixty-fifth year. Mrs. Skinner has been a worthy member of the Methodist Episcopal Church for fort-seven years.

    Subject: Skinner Family

I loved your presentation of your family. It takes a great deal of time and care. I have been searching for a very long time for my husband's "Skinner" roots in the Morrisonville area, and continue to hit a brick wall. I think from what I have and from what I've seen in your photos and your information, that your kin (Joseph and Irene (Skinner) Snider) might be related to the ones I have been searching for. I think Irene was the daughter of "Morris F Skinner", who was the son of "Mylo Skinner", and the brother of my husband's gggrandfather, Jasper N Skinner (aka J N Skinner).
I have never been able to validate this, however. If you have any information that could link them, I would be forever greatful!!!!!
Thanks for your time. And again, great job! I wish I had the talent you have shown here!
    Thanks again! Linda Skinner

    Hi Sherry,

I couldn't find him in 1860. So I went back to 1850. Then I went back to 1860 to find anyone that was in the household with him in 1850. I think he is Jeffries. Probably his nickname??

    Hi Sherry,

I'm sorry that he wasn't your Morris! :(
I am having a very difficult time trying to post this message to you. Hopefully, you'll get this one. Morris & Mary are not to be found in the 1900, 1910 or 1920 census. Their son, Alfred is living in Christian County in 1900, 1910, 1920 & 1930. His 1900 census birthdate is erroneous. It is shown as October 1869, instead of October 1877. In 1900 he is living as a servant in, I assume, a non-member household. (hence the erroneous info) I would think that if Morris and/or Mary were alive, that he would be residing with one and/or the other. I would stick with Christian County to see if they have a death certificate for either Morris or Mary. Would you like the census images for Alfred? Also have his WWI Draft Registration Card image. Want that one? If so, please let me know what e-mail addy you want me to send them to.
