    Notes:

    There is a story told by one of the Alabama Records books about Jesse and his marriage to Winnie Mapp. It turns out that a Mr. William Brown secured a marriage licence for him and Winnie on 28 December 1811. He however forgot to ask Winnie about it first and when he did she would not marry him. Seven months later, Winnie Mapp married Jesse Stone. Winnie Mapp was known as Winnie Mapp Jourdan. Her father died and her mother remarried a Soloman Jordan. Jesse Stone would prosper in the fertile Alabama soil. Jesse, the two sons, and his slaves worked the new ground with plow horses. They would grow cotton and corn and by the 1860 he estimated his estate's value at $28,000, $4,500 of it's value being land.

    Mary Matilda was the daughter of Wm A. and Patsy Martha (Stone) Corder and the wife of Larry Hargus (1810-1887).
    Mary Matilda and her parents moved to the Mexican Province of Texas as legal colonists sometime prior to 1835.
    Mary recalled that as a child, age 11, her family and other colonists had been forced to flee into east Texas because of the advance of Mexican General Santa Anna's army into Texas. This event is known in Texas history as the "Runaway Scrape". When Santa Anna's army was defeated at the Battle of San Jacinto they returned to their homes.
    Mary was 15 years old when she married Larry Hargus. They had 12 children, three sons (James, Wm. Larry, and Barry L.) and 9 daughters (Martha Jane, Frances Ann, Minerva Ann, Lydia, Rachael Elizabeth, Mary B., Prudie, Mary Angeline and Ida Caroline.)

He lived in Erath County and was a long time resident of Eastland County. Donnie was blind and never married.

    Donnie not shown in 1850 census. Sarah is shown as last child born in 1845. Wondering if his birthdate could be off even though that's the date on the headstone. Could Martha have been pg with him when they were separated?
