Died:
Martha Cooley Landrum Martha Cooley Landrum, 98, died Friday, June 24 at her daughter's home with family and friends. She passed away two weeks before her 98th birthday. She was born on July 2, 1907 to William Ira and Phoebe Nicholson Cooley. She was a faithful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gus Landrum; her parents, William Ira Cooley and Pheobe Nicholson Cooley; eight brothers, Samp, John I., Oscar, Ira Leonard, Harvey, James, Davey, and Tommy C.; a sister, Elizzie (Mary Elizabeth Cooley Pierson); daughter, Avis Landrum Alexander and a grandson, David McWilliams. She is survived by two daughters, Virginia Landrum McWilliams and Gussie Landrum Parker and one son Freddie Landrum, all of Laurel, eight grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Beatrice Cooley and Hazel Stanziole. She was retired from U. S. Plywood and the Foster Grandparent Program at Ellisville State School. She had a great love for these special children. She was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church and taught Sunday school and gave many children rides to church through the years. She was lovingly cared for at home by her entire family, her son-in-law, Lonnie McWilliams, until his death last year and by her daughters, Virginia and Gussie; a special son-in-law, Billy Joe Prince, has been there every day to pick her up, put her in her wheel chair and then back to bed. He helped us in so may ways. We could not have made it without him. Our thanks to his wife Gail for being so willing for him to help us. There is just not enough space to tell how much she loved God and her family and how much we loved her. Taking care of her has never been a burden, but has been a priviledge and a pleasure. We will all miss her. The service will be at Memory Chapel Monday, June 27 at 3:30 p.m. Burial will be in Hickory Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Sunday at Memory Chapel Funeral Home in Laurel which is in charge of arrangements.
