Jean Avara passed from this life Friday evening, March 15, 2013, in Santa Fe, with her loving family at her side.
Born October 14, 1928 in Galveston, Mrs. Avara had been a lifetime resident of Galveston County, living primarily in Santa Fe and Hitchcock. She had been a secretary for many years, working for Amoco, Texas A&M Galveston and alongside her husband at Bellfort Optical. Jean enjoyed going shopping, gardening, watching political shows and spending time with her family.
Preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Emmett Avara, survivors include her daughter, Jeanette Polinard and husband, Wayne; grandson, Cody Burris and his fiancée Sara Ecoff.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, 2013, in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home, with Mr. Russell McLaughlin officiating. Interment will follow at Hayes Grace Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Calvin Polinard, David Polinard, Eli Polinard, Bobby Ross, Donovan Ross and Robert Ross.
Visitation will be 5:00 ? 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, 10412 Highway 6, Hitchcock, TX (409) 925-3501.
