    He enlisted on Oct 17, 1862 in Company F, DeBray's Tex Cavalry Regiment. Dan and his brother Sol B. Wallis laid out the town of Wallisville in 1854. Dan and his family eventually settled on family property at Smith point. He served in a varty of offices in Chambers Co government throughout his life. These included: county clerk, 1858-1862; chief justice of the county 1860-1862; county surveyor 1872-1884. It is also interesting to note that Republician Governor A. J. Hamilton appointed him as tax accessor in 1865. True to his Southern roots, Wallis refused to serve. He died at his home on East Bay and was buried there in a small family cemetery nearby.
