    Notes:

A Cousin of Mildred Howell. Aunt and Godmother of George Washington. Widow of Roger Gregory. Transferred Mount Vernon to her brother Augustine Washington on 26 May 1726, "That upon hearing of the death of Col. Willis' second wife (her cousin Mildred Brown) Mildred Gregory (Washington) wept immoderately.Upon some remark that it was strange that she should greave so much for her cousin, She Replied "That the death of her near relative was not the sole cause of her grief, but that she knew that old Henry Willis would be down there to see her and she did not know what to do with him". The sequel proved that she knew the man, for in a little while the old cock sat himself down before her door and commenced a regular siege. She held out for some time, but finally capitulated, so in less than three months after the death of his second wife he married Mrs. Mildred Gregory."
