    Charles Frank "C.F." Goode

    Charles Frank "C. F." Goode, 85, died on Friday, January 23, 2004 at his residence in Beaumont, Texas. He was born on January 28, 1918 in Moss Point, Mississippi, the ninth of twelve children born to Nettie Deakle and Duke Richard Goode. He spent his early years in Gulfport, Mississippi, and his family moved to Beaumont when he was six years old. C.F. attended Beaumont High School where he was a good math student and a well-known baseball player. He left school to help support his family, and enlisted in the Army in 1940. He trained in El Paso, Texas with the First Cavalry Division - Delta Troop, one of the last horse-mounted cavalry units. During the war he served in the Asian Pacific Theater, where he was wounded twice in 1944. In recognition of his military service, he was decorated with a Purple Heart Ribbon with First Oak Leaf Cluster, two Bronze Star medals, a Philippine Liberation Ribbon, an American Defense Ribbon, a Good Conduct Medal, an Asiatic Pacific Ribbon, and three overseas bars. The wounds to his arm and chest ended a promising baseball career, but never diminished his life-long love of the game. He completed his education while recuperating from his war wounds and returned to Beaumont. He met and married Beatrice Jett in June 1945. C.F. worked for Dallas Williams Furniture Store for several years before he joined Texas-U.S. Chemicals. He retired from Texas-U.S. (Synpol) in 1983 after more than 30 years of service. He was a longtime member of St. Paul's Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife Beatrice Jett Goode; son Charles Frank Goode, Jr. and wife, Diane of Pearland, Texas; son William Robert Goode of Beaumont; sister, Betsy Saide of Groves; sister Marjorie Goode; and numerous nieces and nephews. Services are planned for 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 25, 2004 at Claybar Kelley- Watkins Funeral Home with burial to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. today at the funeral home. The family wishes to thank Dr. Clayton and the Hospice staff members who cared for him during the past months.
