Last I heard, Cole researchers had not been able to place Elizabeth, but I think you're right that she probably was Solomon's sister, both being children of James Cole II and Mary Rentfroe. The reason I think so is because James and Benjamin's father owned land on/near Cole's Creek in MS Territory, giving the kiddies probable opportunity to get acquainted.
The fact that Elizabeth is listed as being from Lancaster Co, PA & SC. & Solomon from NC - more reason to think that she was James II's and Mary Rentfroe's little girl. James II was born in DE, baptized in PA at age 2, married Mary in VA,d briefly in NC, relocated to SC, and then made an extraordinary voyage of around 1,500 miles by river boat from northeastern TN to MS Territory. Depending on when Elizabeth was born, her birth place could have been VA, NC, or SC.

Carole thinks that Elizabeth's father is a James, but she & her siblings would have been adults by 1788. Who is this James?

Solomon Cole, son of James Cole and Mary Rentfroe was born about 1760 in Ashpole Swamp, Bladen County, North Carolina. The family moved to "Natchez Country," Mississippi in 1772. They located at "Coles Creek," named for our Cole ancestors. Her, Solomon married Elizabeth Davis, widow of Charles Simmons. They had two sons named James Simmons and David D. Simmons (Black Dave). Solomon Cole received a Spanish Land Grant claim #756 of 200 acres, situated on the waters of Coles Creek, Natchez District dated: 4 January 1794. On 12 February 1778, Solomon Cole bought from his brother, Stephen Cole, 300 arpents of land on Coles Creek, for $150.00. A Spanish Grant #1380, donated to Stephen Cole. One month later Solomon Conveyed the 300 arpents to William Thomas for the sum of $600.00, making a nice profit. On February 7, 1804, Solomon and Elizabeth Cole sold their home, the original Spanish Grant #756 of 200 acres to Buckner Darden for $400.00. They moved their family from Coles Creek to St. Landry Parish, Louisiana in 1804. Solomon and his brother James located land on the Plaquemine Brulee. Solomon acquired 529 acres from Isaac Johnson, the original claimant. It was situated on the stream and bounded on the North by James Cole's land grant.

Solomon Cole served as a Police Juror (Justice of the Peace) in St. Landry Parish from 1811 to 1818. He later moved to a vacherie at Prairie Soileau. "When James and Solomon Cole moved from Coles Creek, Mississippi in 1804, they joined former neighbors by names of: Hayes, King, Forman, Simmons, McClelland, Reeves, Bilbo and Roberts. They all settled on each side of the Plaquemine Brulee stream in St. Landry Parish. James Cole was the original claimant by settlement and occupancy of 400 acres. Solomon Cole acquired his 529 acre Spanish Grant from Isaac Johnson, the original grantee. A tributary of Bayou Plaquemine Brulee ran through both James and Solomon's land, named Coles Bayou or Gulley. A certain location was known as Coles Cove. This area was also, "Coles Settlement," since that was the name of the first Post Office established in 1832. Evidently, this Post Office was located on the Solomon Cole land, some five miles north and east of present Crowley, Louisiana. Abraham Cole, son of Solomon was appointed postmaster, January 24, 1938. Two persons who gave bond were Jacob Simmons and William Forman, son-in-law of Solomon Cole. We do not know why the Coles became dissatisfied with the Plaquemine Brulee location. Perhaps, floods or pestilence caused crop failures. James Cole sold to Malachi Stanton, "a certain tract of land, situated in St. Landry Parish at a place called, Tasse Point, on a Gulley [Coles) of Plaquemine Brulee, containing 400 acres and being in the Western District of the Territory of Orleans, no State of Louisiana...in consideration of the sum of $350.00"

The Coles probably, started moving westward in St. Landry Parish after this date of 1821. Solomon Cole died in 1825 and his Succession papers read, "Judge George King went to the Cole Vacherie [small ranch) in Prairie Soileau on Beaver Creek to make an Inventory of the estate." Our intermarried families of Cole, Forman and Simmons are found together in the 1830 Census of St. Landry Parish in the area of "Bayou Dubonne," 60 miles southwest of Opelousas. This is the western part of the Parish cut off for Calcasieu after selling his grant on the Plaquemine Brulee is not known.

The Court House was burned down and all records were destroyed in Lake Charles in 1910. We cannot check deeds, marriages, conveyances, and probates for our Cole, Forman and Simmons families. The relationship of Solomon's family is established by his Succession Papers filed in Opelousas Court Records. Named is Elizabeth Cole, widow of the deceased, James Cole, a son, James Forman, a son-in-law is requested to "tutor" his minor son, "Stephen Cole," Stephens portion of his father's estate was left in the care of his Uncle James Cole Sr., half-brother, David Simmons, and his brother-in-law William Forman.

The Solomon Cole land was purchased by William Forman with the "reservations that, the widow, Elizabeth Cole and son Stephen Cole were to live on the 'home place." Other children of Solomon Cole were not named in the St. Landry Parish records but, we can identify those who married from the Bonds.

On February 7, 1804, Solomon and Elizabeth Cole sold their home, the original Spanish grant #756 of 200 acres to Buchner Darden for $400. They moved their family from Coles Creek to St. Landry Parish, Louisiana. Solomon and his brother Jamle, located on land on the Plaquemine Brulee St. Landry Parish. Solomon Cole acquired 529 acres from Isaac Johnson, the original grantee.

The following explanation of the Plaquemine Brulee, St. Landry, Louisiana is taken from "Cole Footprints".
"The name PLAGUEMINE BRULEE is descriptive of the region, meaning burnt Persimine. The word Plaquemine is translated as the fruit of the Persimine tree; and Brulee was used by the Acadian settlers to describe fields burnt over for cleaninh spring. Voila! PLAQUEMINE BRULEE. It is also, the name of a well known stream of water, which covers Southern St. Landry Parish with tributaries of gulleys and bayous. This land area was important to the early settlement of Southwestern Louisiana.

Spanish explorers sailing along the Gulf coast as early as 1519 found the mouth of the mighty Mississippi River. They established Colonies and Forts. It was the French explorer, Robert Cavelier La Salle who claimed for France in 1682, ae land drained by the river and its tributaries. He named the territory, "Louisiana" in honor of King Louie XIV. Louis J. St. Denis founded the first permanent settlements at Natchitoches in 1714, and at New Orleans in 1718. After the Seven Year War in 1763, France ceded Canada and all of the Louisiana Province east of the the Mississippi to England (except the Isle of Orleans). By a secret treaty with Spain, France had ceded all her land west of the Mississippi and Orleans to that country. From his military might, Napolean forced Spain to give Louisiana back to France in 1800. His dream for a French Colonial Empire failed, and in 1803 Napolean sold the Louisiana Territory to the United States for $15,000,000.

During the French regime two Indian Trading Posts were established in the Southwestern section of the Territory, Poste des Attakapas and Poste des Opelousas. Both named for Indian Tribes who lived in the area. Post des Opelousas includet is now St. Landry, Acadia, Allen, Calcasieu, Beauregard Cameron, Jefferson and Evangeline Parishes. Some Anglo-Americans bought land from Indian Chiefs as early as 1780; others received Spanish Land Grants, until the Territory became United States property. She then granted land to Protestants as well as many Acadian families who moved into the area.

A petition from Elizabeth Cole, widow, asks that the community be sold at public sale on July 1, 1825, and that a family council be appointed to provide a tutor for Stephen Cole who is under the age of puberty. She signs with a mark. Wae a Cole, married a Cole??? Elizabeth is appointed the natural tutor.
Attending the family council are James Cole Sr., uncle; David Simmons, half brother; James Cole, Jr., his brother; William Forman his brother-in-law and James Simmons, a friend in lieu of a family member. William Forman was appointed undert. David Simmons signs, as do William Forman and James Simmons; James Cole Jr. makes a mark.

At the family meeting January 9, 1823, Edmund Johnson, Jr., and --- Milburn, uncles of the minor child Christopher Simmons, along with family friends in lieu of other family members, all agreed to name Edmund Johnson, Sr., the grandfathere tutor and Edmund Jr. as undertutor. Edmund Jr. signs.
It appears that mama Mary Johnson is also dead at this time??

The John Coale (Cole) Family

John Coale (1805-1875) was born in St. Landry Parish. His parents were James Coale and Jemima Curtis, who were married in Natchez Territory in Mississippi in 1785. John Coale married Rachel Hayes in Opelousas, Louisiana, on Jul 27, 1823. Both were eighteen years old at the time. Ultimately, they had nine children.
It is believed that he migrated to Texas in 1823 to receive a Mexican Land grand. However, some problem occurred and he never received the final title.
It is known that he lived in the Cow Bayou Settlement. He was mentioned in several documents, although there is no record that he owned land. He was listed with Richard Ballew, John Harmon, and Thomas Hart ona committee to select a suitable place for the seat of justice of the new municipality of Jefferson. George Patillo mentioned him as one of the early citizens that he remembered. Also, he was mentioned by Captain George W. Hargraves as one of the men who served during the Texas Revolution. He therefore turned his interests to cattle and cattle-raising, along with his brother and his children. His older son, David, married Louisa Stephen. His son Joshua died in Apri 1903, and was buried in Orange County. John's other children married Stephensons, Burrells, Mills, and Williamsons. The elder Coale Died on April 20, 1875, and was buried in the John Coale Cem in Orange. His wife, Rachel, died on November 21, 1890, and is buried at the Abshire Ranch Cemetery in Liberty, Texas.

I found the following reference at the Family History Center in Spring, Texas The name of the genealogy book was Hiram Miller and Susannah Cole Miller early settlers of Smith County Mississippi written by Granville Hough. Hannah Elizabeth Miller married Ivy Walker (Just a quick interject-- they are cousins going back to a shared great grandfather James Miller who served in the Revolutionary War) and they had the following children. : Rufus, Nancy Susannah, Charity, Thomas, Ivy,Willis, Theodora, and Pinkney and Edward. Nancy Susannah Walker married William Howard Keyes and they moved to Winn Parish, Louisiana and later to Franklin Parish, Louisiana where they are buried. They had the following children: Joesph Henry Keyes, jeptha Lafayette, William Benjamin, Ivy J,Nancy Elizabeth, Sara A, Janie, Howard A, and Wiley Morris.
Joesph Henry Keyes ( he was a Baptist minister) married Amy Louvenia Shelton (Lavinia) and they had the following children: Alson Lonnie Keys, Fred A Keys, Gladys, Audie, Floyd and Royd. Fred was a fighter pilot in WW2 and a Baptist minister and Alson Lonnie was a former oilfield worker and then a farmer Royd was killed during the the DDay invasion and is buried in Europe.
Alson Lonnie Keys ( they dropped the es ) married Rosa Jane Hurt and they had seven children ( two died in infancy and there are no grave markers for them but according to their death certificate they were interred at Coax Baptist Church Cemetary in Baskin, Franklin Parish, Louisiana.) There names were Blair Hurt Keys and Calvin Fletcher. The other five are Margueritte Lucille Keys Reed 1931-2013, Betty Jo Keys Harrelson Sawyer, d 2012Rogers Moody Keysd. 2002 and two that are living Kenneth Royd Keys and Wanda Joy Keys Arnold

I have much research verifying this information: I have been preparing for a supplemental for the DAR with James Miller. I have death certificates for Alson Lonnie Keys, Margueritte Keys Reed, Joesph Henry Keys, Amy Shelton Keys, Rosa Jane Hurt Keys, and Nancy Susannah Walker. The other lineage is proven on DAR for James Miller, Sr. born 1750 in North Carolina and died 1826 in Amite County, Mississippi.

His lineage is also published in The Order of the First Families of Mississippi at least the Hannah Elizabeth Miller and Ivy Walker

I found a book about Susannah Cole and Hiram Miller written by Granville Hough. I downloaded it at the family history center. Susannah and Hiram married. This is my line of descendants from them. They had a daughter named Hannah Elizabeth Miller who married Ivy Walker they lived in Taylorsville Mississippi. "G. W. Hargraves, who was captain of a little Beaumont company of militia in August, 1835, had sixty-two men under him, twenty of whom took part in the battle of the Alamo. He also was at the head of twenty-one volunteers who started to join ston to stop the advance of Santa Anna, but the battle of San Jacinto was fought before they reached that place, and they were ordered to rout some hostile Indians north of the town. JOHNSON, BENJAMIN

JOHNSON, BENJAMIN (1815?1872). Benjamin Johnson, soldier, early settler, and son of Moses Johnson and Mary Ann Roberts was born on June 8, 1815, near Edgerly (in present-day Calcasieu Parish), Louisiana. He moved to Texas in 1832 and settled at Jefferson Municipality (present-day Bridge City in Orange County) on Cow Bayou.

Johnson volunteered to fight in the Texas Revolution and enlisted in the Texas Army on November 12, 1835, under Capt. Willis H. Landrum?s Company. He participated in the Grass Fight and the siege of Bexar later that year. Johnson was given an honorable discharge on January 1, 1836, at the Alamo. After learning of the fall of the Alamo, he re-enlisted in Capt. James Gillaspie?s Company, in the Second Regiment of Texas Volunteers under Col. Sidney Sherman?s command. On April 21, Sherman formed part of the regiment of the left wing and fought in the battle of San Jacinto. On June 30, Johnson served a third enlistment as second sergeant in Capt. John G. W. Pierson?s Company at Washington. He received an honorable discharge on September 30, 1836.

After service, Johnson received a donation of 320 acres of land for having served in the army. He returned to Jefferson, where on January 24, 1838, he received a 1,440-acre headright from the Jefferson County Board of Land Commissioners.

On April 24, 1838, Johnson married Rachel Garner, daughter of Bradley Garner, Sr., and Sarah Rachel Harmon. Rachel was from a family of military service. Her father fought in the Battle of New Orleans, and her brothers David, Isaac, and Jacob Garner fought at the Grass Fight and the Siege of Bexar. Her brother-in-law Claiborne West was a signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence. Soon after marriage Johnson and his new wife settled in Sabine Pass on a farm of his sister-in-law Sarah Garner McGaffey. Records show that Benjamin and Rachel Johnson were one of the earliest settlers in Sabine Pass along with John McGaffey, Thomas Courts, and Jacob Garner. Johnson then appeared before the land commissioners and received an additional headright of 3,000 acres, granted to married men. He and Rachel became the parents of at least eight sons and two daughters.

On July 7, 1838, Johnson was granted an additional 640 acres of donation land for having fought at the battle of San Jacinto. That same year, he was certified as one of fifty-seven jurors to serve in the Jefferson County courts. He was elected a county commissioner on December 2, 1852. He and his family were charter members of the second Baptist Church of Jefferson County.

Rachel Johnson died in 1856. On July 4, 1861, Johnson married Matilda Myers, whom he had employed as his housekeeper. Later that year in August, Benjamin Johnson joined his three sons, Bradley, John, and Uriah Johnson, and served under Ben McCulloch in the Confederate Army. In addition to his military and public service, Johnson was a farmer, stockman, and patriarch. Benjamin Johnson died at the age of fifty-seven at Sabine Pass on October 13, 1872, and was buried at the Johnson family plot at the Sabine Pass Cemetery in Jefferson County. A Texas Historical Marker was erected in his honor in 1972.

Sabine Pass Cemetery - The oldest continually used cemetery in Jefferson County, This graveyard has served the citizens of the Sabine Pass area since the 1840s. The earliest documented grave is that of a 12-year-old John A. Dashiell, son of William V.C. and Mary Dashiell, who died on August 27, 1847. The large site now known as Sabine Pass Cemetery represents a combination of five formerly distinct burial grounds. Included in what was once called "The Colored Peoples Cemetery" is the unmarked grave of 108-year-old Louis Williams. Born a slave in Mississippi in 1813, Williams died on June 23, 1921. Among the burials in this historic graveyard are those of many distinguished military veterans. Able Coffin (1792-1862) and Burwell Jackson (1783-1864) fought in the War of 1812. Jacob Harmon Garner (1814-1887), Benjamin Johnson (1815-1872) and Niles F. Smith (1800-1858) were Texas Revolution veterans. Soldiers and sailors from both the Union and Confederate forces of the Civil War also are interred here. The two Union sailors Patrick Ferlin and Albert W. Marshall, died of wounds sustained during the offshore naval encounter on January 21, 1863, while serving on the ship Morning Light. A number of Confederate veterans rest in the cemetery, as does Kate Dorman, dubbed "the heroine of Sabine Pass" for her assistance of the southern troops. A number of graves have been specially marked with military or state historical markers. Maintained by Jefferson County and cared for by local volunteer organizations, the Sabine Pass Cemetery remains in use by citizens of the area. Its historic gravestones and monuments provide a unique component of the cultural history of Jefferson County. (1999)

The following is from the "Southern Baptists of Southeast Texas", the chapter on the formative years and beyond, pages 24 & 25:
Old First, Orange, is the oldest congregation in Southeast Texas Association that can claim a definite historical peg for its birthright. It dates from October 1857, when ten members "in the presence of Brother D. D. Forman, as moderator" ctuted the church in as much as the city was then named Madison, the church bore that name through 1861. In the same month as its creation, it was " found orderly and orthodox" and received into the Bethlehem Association, meeting with Beech Creek Church in Tyler County on 12 October 1857.
A. Prewett was the only delegate listed in the first year of Old First, Orange; there were nine members and a $2.00 contribution was made. No pastor was specified in its initial year, although Forman was the minister the following year ay have served in that capacity immediately following the organization.
Forman was another remarkable minister who served God for many years. He was born in St. Landry Parish, Louisiana, on 8 September, 1817. He married Mary Simmons on 17 January, 1837, (this is incorrect, actual copies of the court records she date as January 9, 1837), and " embraced Christianity" through faith in Christ in August 1841. Two years later, on 31 October 1843, Forman was ordained to the ministry in the same church where he had experienced salvation at Aimwell, Louisiana. The field in which he labored was, for the most part, in far western and southern sections of the state. He worked as moderator of the Louisiana Baptist Association for five or six years, during which time he assisted in organizing six churches and ordaining three preachers. (Texas Historical and Biographical Magazine, 2 vols.(Austin: J.B.Link, 1891-92)).
Forman must have worked in the Orange County area before moving farther west, for in October 1866 he settled in Liberty County, which was in Tryon Association, and united with Oak Shade Church in Tarkington's Prairie. He preached extensiver about a year in these environs where the ministers were commonly asked for about a year to make their donations by preaching. He contributed $50.00 to the association, which meant that he preached fifty days. Part of this time was volunteered in the vicinity where the town of Willis developed in Montgomery County. Forman was pastor of several churches including Cedar Bayou and Willis.
D.D. Forman was said "to be a man of much ability and leadership. He organized a wagon train and rescued it from Indians. D.D. Forman and Mary moved with a group Simmons families from Louisiana to East Texas, in Tarkingtons Prairie. They r moved to Central West Texas at Liberty Hill, where D.D. built a large store and lumber yard. He also built an imposing building, by the standards of the day. This was in Liberty Hill and was one of the largest buildings of several towns nearby. It was built to house the Liberty Normal and Business College. It cost about $500.
The Coleman brothers were the first teachers and managers. Later, the Hamilton brothers, David Luke and Jeptha Erastus were brought there by their Uncle D.D. Forman, to teach. Later on D.D. Forman deeded the college building to the communnd it was used as a public school until it was destroyed by fire.
D.D. Forman and Polly had no children of their own, but they acted as guardians and advisors to their nieces and nephews, children of David Simmons and wife Amelia (Millie) Forman. They had 12 children.
Here I am going to parlay information of D.D. Forman and his wife, Mary Simmons Forman, as written by J. Gordon Bryson "Pete Shady", in his book, "Culture of the Shin Oak Ridge Folk". I am going to take a family right to correct the spellif the Forman name and will note other corrections of family lineage.
Chapter 31. "Sometime long before I was born, a man named Forman came to Liberty Hill from East Texas. Apparently he was a man of considerable means, either a sawmill operator or a lumberman. He put in a lumberyard which was still doing bess when I was a medical student. He built the first unit of a big store, which was perhaps just a front for the lumber yard. It was this man Forman who financed the construction of the old LN and BC College. Believe it or not, that was the biggest structure between Georgetown and Burnet. It had cost Mr. Forman $500.00, and later he presented it to the community as public property. It was maintained by a combination of district taxes (very small) and tuition. The Coleman brothers were the first teachers and managers."
Chapter 32-Bringing Up A Child In The Way He Should Go- "Perhaps the most often misquoted short sentence of the Scripture is "Bring up a child in the way he should go, and he will not depart therefrom when he is old." Omitting that last e has become the practice of the mind that is always willing to underate the value of a good man. He may be a layman, a lawyer, a doctor, or a minister. However, the bad boys of the preacher area favorite quotation of the cynics. Mr. Webster says that a cynic is an atheist.
The following two personalities, their origins, and their resultant ends are just two Shin Oak Ridge men which we have been able to follow through. They are presented to prove our contention that cultural advancement does have its genesn a good home.
Let's first take the man D.D. Forman, born in Louisiana or East Texas on September 8, 1817. (I will intercede, he was born in Opelousas, La.). He died in Liberty Hill, October 6, 1892. His wife Mary (Cole) Forman, (again I will intercedey was a Simmons, the sister of David Simmons, D.D. Forman's mother's maiden name was Sue Anna Cole)., was born in 1818, in Opelousas, La. and died at Liberty Hill in 1897. They had no children. They were very devout members of the Baptist church. (I will a add that he was an ordained Baptist minister). We will soon see that it was very fortunate that his nephew, David L. Simmons, fell in love with and married Mary's niece, Polly Cole. Apparently the Formans became the guardian angels of the young David Simmons.
The David L. Simmonses became the parents of three sons and three daughters. It is evident that the Forman-Cole genes flowed unhampered right into the Simmons bloodstream, as we will see in a very incomplete report upon the second and thirerations."

David D. Forman is also credited with rescuing the Alabama-Coushatta Indians by organizing a wagon train and bringing them from East Texas to Tarkingon Prairie. They were starving to death because of a severe drought and they were dying of fever. They remained in Tarkington Prairie until the US Gov't. put them on the Reservation in East Texas some years later.

At Liberty Hill, Texas, he built a large store and lumber yard by the railroad tracks and across from the depot. It remained in use for a long time and was operated by Julius Landrum and Jake Simmons.
D.D. Forman built an imposing building, by their standards of yesterday. It was built in Liberty Hill and was the largest building of several towns nearby. It was built to house the Liberty Normal and Business College. It cost about $500. If you could see the picture, you would be amazed that such a large attractive building could be built for that sum of money.
I have before me a picture of the Liberty Normal and Business College. It is a reprint of an ad published in the Williamson County Sun on Thursday, Aug. 12, 1886. The ad presents "Reasons Why You Should Attend This School" and another write-up describing the "Character of Work Done Here" was written by the President, E. M. Coleman, and Secretary P.T. Coleman. A catalogue could be had by addressing the above. The write-ups were on each side of a large picture of the college.
This reprint was published in Georgetown, Texas by the "Williamson County Sun" on March 20, 1969 page 13.
Beginning with reason #14 as to why you should attend the Liberty Normal and Business College we find:
"14. This school is better adapted to the wants of the masses than any other school in the State.
#15. Its success is unparalleled in the West.
#16. It is the largest and most progressive Normal in the State.
#17. Board is only $10.00 per month.
I have known some of the graduates and they really did excel in their chosen professions. The Coleman brothers were the first teachers and managers. Later the Hamilton brothers, David Luke and Jeptha Erastus, were brought to Liberty Hill to teach in the Normal and Business College by their Uncle D.D. Forman. Two of their sisters came also. They taught and helped in managing the school for some years. These two brothers were Baptist Ministers, who went to South America as Missionaries. They were sponsored by the First Baptist Church of Georgetown, Texas, and the Baptist Church of Liberty Hill, Texas.
D.D. Forman later deeded the College Building to the Community and it was used as a public school until its destruction by fire. The College building was destroyed by fire around 1901. That same night the Baptist Church was burned to the ground as a result of burning flying debris. The wind was very strong and nor fire fighting equipment was to be had. The story of the fire incidents was told to me by David Reid Simmons, who lived at Liberty Hill at the time and was present when it happened. He had attended school in the building.
Rev. D.D. Forman and his wife, Mary (called Polly), had no children but they acted as guardians and advisors to their neices and nephews, children of David and Amelia Simmons. This is evident by the many experiences they shared together. It is also evident that he had much concern for them by his sharing his worldly possessions with them through his will.

He re-enlisted in 1864 in what was known as Ragsdale's Battalion and remained with them until the end of the war.
The family had reported Ebenezer was a circuit preacher. The Census listed his occupation as a farmer. His older brother David D. Forman was an ordained Baptist minister.
In 1880 Ebenezer and family were living in Independence, Texas, (Washington County). They had also lived in Llano, Texas and that is where Ebenezer and Apolonia are buried, at Bluffton Cemetery, Llano, Texas.

On 9-28-1931, Ebenezer and Apalona were moved from the OLD BLUFFTON Cem., a community on the Llano side of the Colorado River where the main BRIDGE was located, to the NEW BLUFFTON Cem., located about 6 miles further west of the original road. They were buried in Lot 5 Grave 1 (Ebenezer) and Grave 2 (Apalona). Persons contacted by the original persons in charge of moving these graves in 1931 (company was originally Chicago based Emory, Peck, and Rockwood, but it went bankrupt, slowing down the project for several years before Roosevelt's New Deal policy stepped in to complete it with the final control going to present LCRA) for permission to move your ancestors graves are listed as:
SONS: Albert of Seguin, Will of Houston, N. G. of Rankin, TX and daughter, Mrs. R. B. Anderson of Seguin.

I don't have much information on the Formans, but I have been able to find quite a bit on the Perkins side. I found the family in Washington Co. TX, Independence Tnshp. in 1880, but nothing further. Of course, Ebenezer was dead by 1900, and although Apalona was still alive until 1909, I don't know where she was, other than to suspect she was living with one of her children.

There were no CHURCH BUILDINGS in the area at that time, and none ever existed in the original community of Old Bluffton. Churches rotated using the upstairs portion of a two-story business establishment, which was also shared with the local masonic lodge, of which I noted that your Ebenezer was also a Mason. In the later days of Old Bluffton before it was covered by the lake, Ike Maxwell did most of his preaching at the local school building. The community of TOW (pronounced like how-now-brown-cow, not TOE) operated under similar religious circumstances, no formal buildings, although much of that community was not covered by the lake. There are a couple of church buildings there today, Church of Christ, for one, but doubt they were there when Ebenezer was in the area. The same is true of Lone Grove, who only has a Church of Christ with a former Methodist and Baptist no longer there.

A main reason I did not suspect him to be a Baptist minister is because the records used to move he and Apalona's graves from Old Bluffton refer to him as REV. Ebeneaer M. Forman. The Church of Christ do not refer to their ministers by this title, and I have known many Baptist ministers who preferred the title of BROTHER in lieu of reverend as well.

A lot of the time, how the minister signed his name on marriage licenses were indications of his religious persuasion, but Ebenezer must have only used something like MOG, minister of God. One reason why it is important for me to know that he was a Baptist minister is because this also gives me insight into the religious backgrounds of the persons whose marriages he performed in the area.

I don' t know if you're interested or not, but I think I have a list of all the marriages he performed in Llano Co. I have one on my ggrandfather, from both Llano and Burnet Co. (people who gave their address as the original pre 1937 Bluffton lived on BOTH sides of the river) as well as other ministers who performed marriages for people whose families lived in my "territory" of interest.

P.S. Have you visited their graves at Bluffton? They are in good shape. There's a good chance one of their sons owned a store in the town of Llano during the time the parents were in the area---at least the last name was spelled FORMAN---no middle "E." And, I'm also thinking there are a few marriages listed in Llano Co. records.

The reason I copied these down is because my great grandfather, Isaac Byler IKE Maxwell was a contemporary minister in the same area. Ike came to the area in 1854 at age 17 and is responsible for naming the community of Bluffton, TX after his home in Bluffton, AR. I am familiar with 99% of all the names of the people Rev. Forman performed the ceremonies for, which helps me better pinpoint who NEEDS to be in my research. IF he married them, they no doubt lived in that same area.
Here's an interesting item!!! In the book, LLANO - GEM OF THE HILL COUNTRY by Wilburn Oatman, Pioneer Book Publishers, Inc. of Hereford, TX, 1970, pg. 35, Mr. Oatman lists the name of a post office in Llano Co. as FORMAN, with the date of establishment 10-10-1883 and with Ebenezer M. Forman as the postmaster, appointed the same date as establishment. BUT, it was discontinued and moved to Bluffton District 8-17-1888. I am now curious as to the LOCATION of this brief "community." Will check on it.
