At last try to write you few lines so hard for me to get started shake so bad eye sight bad I have to get me some glasses trying to save little [long] I don't no what they will cost me have had so many dark days never seen so much Gloomy wiher if I dont get them pirty soon wont be able to see at all. I sure get Blue discouraged if I could go back things be so different to day will can't be my will what did you Rose and that Rex hire for Christmas and you expected to be lost sure was surprised to get it Rose cake fine we sure enjoyed all you sent Thanks I thought off Chrismases that gone bye when i could off sent Presents Just didnt do it I have so many bad Christmas my you aright had some celbration Christmas Anniversary Birth day all to gether like too been their help celbrate we hd nice Chistmas tree I didnt feel well enough (worried) two take any interest in Christmas I havent been out of the house in year only just out the yard I am going to try get my I am better walking better just think I have been here two years been awfull nice to me.

Will inregard to the picture you spoke of. Between 1932 and 1934 granddaughter Florella Marie Crutcher and husband Earl Henry and family moved from their home on North Oxford to 1233 Congress. Florella Marie died there as a widow in 1950, after which their son Donald and his wife were living there. The address where Flora lived must have been 1233 instead of 1133.
1233 is between Elmira and Barnes streets.

Friends may call at Blasengym Chapel, 2229 Shelby st., after 12 o'clock Sunday. Funeral service 10 a.m. Tuesday. Interment New Crown cemetery.

comment: I contacted Indiana State Library 2 or 3 weeks ago with the request that they look for an obit for Flora (my great-grandmother). A follow up call a few days later, and then a week or some days went by and then the lady called to say she found it. Great! She mailed it, and then another week to get here. It came in the mail "today" Friday, May 27, 2011. What is so awesome about this is Flora died on Friday, May 27, 1938! How amazingly cool is that!

Bio: William Arthur Moyer was born to Harold and Flora Moyer. His parents were divorced in the1890s, and Will stayed with his mother. After finishing fourth grade, he was taken out of school and put to work chipping mortar off old bricks for ten cents per hundred. Will's brother Preston "Ted" Moyer played drums in the Gold and Silver Convention in Springfield. He listened to Ted's records of the Capitol Band, and using an instrument book learned to read music and play drums. As his skill improved, Will began to play in groups, like the Capitol Band and the Springfield Watch Company Band. Even as he excelled in his music, Will pursued other activities including painting, carpentry and radio.
Will went to work in Springfield at Bressemer's Department Store, where he met Rosa Mae Snider. They were married on Christmas night, 1912, in their new home at 620 S 12th St.
In 1916, Ted called and offered Will a job with the government. Will moved to San Antonio and worked as a timekeeper at the Remount. He was laid off after the Great War and moved back to Springfield for a year. He then returned to San Antonhere he worked for the Postal Service.

In 1925 Will came to Beaumont, Texas, to play in the Magnolia Band. At that time, all the band members were given jobs in the Magnolia refinery (later Mobil), but their band duties were paramount. The band played park concerts, parades, ar many civic affairs. They moved into a house on Fulton Street. Not long after, he moved once more into the house at 1337 Roberts Ave., which would be his home until his death in 1982.

Will stayed on at Magnolia after the band dissolved and retired from the refinery in 1956. At the annual retirement dinner in 1956, most began their speaches with 'When I started working here...' - but Will said, 'I didn't come to the Maa to work, I came to play!' He got an ovation for that."

Some time after Rose died in 1981, Will went up on the roof to clean the rain gutter and trim limbs from an overhanging pecan tree. He fell and injured his back, which forced him into a nursing home. Several months passed, and Will Moyer dit 11:45 a.m. on 27 November 1982 at the Green Acres Nursing Home in Vidor, Texas. He was 91.

Sixty Years is a long time to be married. Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Moyer of Beaumont will reach their Diamond Anniversary this Christmas Day. They will observe it with a reception Sunday at the home of a son.
Mrs. Moyer is the former Miss Rose Snider. They were married in Springfield, Ill., on Dec. 25, 1912.
In 1916 the Moyers moved to San Antonio where he played in the San Antonio Municipal band and worked.
In 1925, they moved to Beaumont where he became employed at Magnolia Refinery (now Mobil) and, as a hobby, played in the Magnolia Refinery Band.
He played the snare drum and Mrs. Moyer said, "Naturally, he plays an instrument that makes the most noise and no music."
He also played in the official State of Texas Band, under the direction of Dr. Harry McCloud and then R.A. Douchette.
"At the end of the year, the refinry always gives a dinner for all the employees who are retiring," Mr. Moyer recalled.
"I was asked to say a few words, so I walked to the front of the room and said, "Well, I didn't come to Beaumont to work...."
"And the whole room got quiet.
"Then I said, 'I came here to play.'
"And everyone broke into a laugh."
Mrs. Moyer sews for her family and the public, too. "I really enjoy sewing. It gets me away from everything.
"I sew everything from wedding dresses to pantsuits, and pantsuits more than ever now, because more people wear them than anything else."
And now -- 60 years, 4 children, 8 grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren later -- Mr. and Mrs. Moyer are celebrating.
Sunday, they will be honored with a reception in the home of one of their three sons, Raymond, of 1765 Bandera. The formal announcement will be in the Sunday Enterprise-Journal.
Their daughter, Mrs. Ruth Eggleston of Durango, Colo., and the other two sons, Robert and Arthur, both of Beaumont, will attend -- and, of course, many friends...

He is in the 1920 census, living in Springfield IL, age 49, single, and occupation is Music Teacher - Studio.

I was not able to find Fred in the 1930 census so I believe he is the Fred M. Blood who died at Springfield IL on 28 MAR 1924. No age or birth date is given in this index record.

I show Fred was the only child of Leroy S. Blood and Allice Amanda "Allie" Beaver, and he was born in OCT 1871 at Springfield IL.

If you find any descendants, I'd love an update. Part of the reason I love genealogy research is that I love a good mystery. My specialty is working with photos. I'm pretty good at identifying people in old photos. I think there's a possibity the Templeton's are related to you, maybe through marriage. I wouldn't rule it out.

From memoirs (see attached article Yellowed Pages, by Elizabeth Deaton Moyer), "He (William Arthur) played in a theater orchestra for $15 a week. One night, the lights went out - the orchestra began playing a piece that was different from their regular numbers. They were playing "Slippery Slide Trombone" when the owner, Mr. Loper, appeared. He didn't apprecitate the number and fired all the musicians except the pianist."

A native of Cropsey, Ill., and a resident of Beaumont 37 years, he was a retired operator from Mobil Oil Corp. He was a former member of the Magnolia Band.
Survivors include three sons, Raymond L. Moyer, Robert E. Moyer and Arthur L. Moyer, all of Beaumont; a daughter, Ruth Eggleston of Bayfield, Colo.; eight grandchildren; 12 great-granchildren; and three great-great-granchildren.

RAYMOND L. MOYER, 74, of Beaumont died Friday at Beaumont Medical Surgical Hospital.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Carroll-Wallace Funeral Home with burial in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
A native of Springfield, Ill, he lived in Beaumont 62 years and was a retired adult education administrator in the Beaumont Independent School District with 40 years of service.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Moyer of Beaumont; son John Raymond Moyer of Austin; brothers Robert Earl Moyer and Arthur Leslie Moyer, both of Beaumont; sister Ruth Eggleston of Durango, Colo.; and three grandsons.

Parents moved to San Antonio, Texas, then to Beaumont in the '20s, where they remained the rest of their lives. Ruth joined the Army after her divorce from Elmer Ray and went to Japan during WWII. She remained in the Army for a while, was still enlisted in the 1950s and still in Japan. Her mother took care of her young girls. It was in the Army that she met and married Van. Danny was an abandoned baby, possibly Korean, that Van had "found" in a field, and they adopted him.

The Rev. Douglas Smith will lead a funeral at 10 a.m. Monday. Burial will be at Rest Haven Ceme- NEW WHITELAND Donald Lee Henry. Donald Lee Henry, 61, died Thursday at his residence in New Whiteland. He was born in Indianapolis May 23, 1928. His parents were Earl Henry and Marie Henry. He was married to Woneta I. (Greeson) Henry. She survives. Other survivors include three daughters, Karen Fox, Sandra Bratcher and Linda Pedigo; two stepsons, Michael Webb and Howard Webb; a brother, William Henry; a sister, Jane Kowalski; and 14 grandchildren He was an electrician for Local 481 for 29 years before retiring in 1979.

A service will take place Saturday at 1 p.m. at G.H. Herrmann Madison Avenue Funeral Home. Friends may call today from 4 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Lynda Moyer's Funeral Rites are Today at 2
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today in Carroll-Wallace Funeral Home Chapel here for Lynda Elizabeth Moyer, 17, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond L. Moyer, 2360 Avenue E, who was fatally injured early eesterday after the auto in which she was a passenger struck a utility pole.
The Rev. Walker McPherson, pastor of the North End Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will include Pat Summerville, Gid Graham, Bill Marlow, Roland Bryam, Arnold Whedbee and Pat Vietch.
The girl, who had received her high school diploma from Beaumont High earlier in the evening, died in the emergency room of Baptist Hospital. The accident occurred about 4:30 a.m. at Washington and Fourth.
Officers identified the driver of the car as Harry L. Harville, 17, son of Mr. and Mrs. S.L. Harvill, 405 Chaison, who told police the auto's steering mechanism would not respond.
The teenagers were reportedly en route to the Moyer home, retuurning from a graduation dance and movie, and a breakfast after graduation exercises.
Young Harvill was awarded the 1962 McGraw-Hill National Merit Scholarship and was one of six top honor grads in the senior graduation class.

Rose Mary Scully entered the loving arms of Jesus on October 8, 2020 at the age of 85 years old. Rose Mary was born in Beaumont, TX on June 27, 1935 to Elmer Franklin Ray and Ruth Louise Moyer.

Rose Mary (Memaw or Granny to most of the family) dedicated her life to her family. She knew, loved, and was incredibly proud of every one of her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She kept track of their birthdays, graduations, and special days, and she always made sure to send a card with a thoughtful sentiment in the most beautiful cursive handwriting and a small gift when she could ? which was almost always. We always looked for that card in the mail.

Rose Mary attended football games, band and choir performances, and everything she was physically able to attend to support her family. She was an amazing (and very picky) cook. She made amazing gumbo, biscuits, gravy, beans, corn fritters, and could turn flour, corn meal, and oil into almost anything. She loved paying for meals and hated asking for help from anyone. Sometimes she was overly honest, but she never disappointed us. She was an enthusiastic Houston Texans and Astros fan, and never missed a game.

Rose Mary is preceded in death by her husband, Patrick Joseph Scully, Jr; son, Matthew Wayne Scully; and daughter, Karen Sue Lewis.

Rose Mary will always be remembered by: her daughters Patricia Phelps of Alvin, TX, Deborah Ramirez of Humble, TX, son, John Scully and wife Deea of Roanoke, TX, daughter-in-law Keri Scully of Pearland, TX, son-in law Charlie Lewis of Brenham, TX; sister, Betty Holley of Albuquerque, NM and brother, Danny Eggleston of Rio Rancho, NM; Grandchildren Jason Ramirez, Jacob Ramirez, Joshua Ramirez, Crystal (Ramirez) Mills, Jonah Ramirez, Julio Ramirez, Jeffrey Phelps, Kenny Scully, Amanda (Scully) Moore, Becky Neumann, Kristalyn (Raska) Knipstein, Joe Raska IV, Elizabeth (Neumann) Scott, Royce Neumann, Tyler Scully, Caleb Scully and Canaan Scully. She will also be remembered by her 37 great grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren.

The Scully family will be receiving friends and family on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at SouthPark Funeral Home. They will receive family between 4:00 and 5:00 PM, and friends from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, October 14, 2020. All are welcome. Interment will follow services at SouthPark Cemetery where she will be laid next to her loving husband Patrick.

I was born on a Saturday night at 8:15. My mom said I had been due on Sep 25, so I was a little late. She was at her mom's house on Congress when she went into labor early that day. When they decided it was time, they called an ambulance as they had no car at that time. My dad and my grandmother went with her to Beaumont Infirmary. I remember her telling me how when the attendants were carrying her up the stairs on the gurney, she was apprehensive that they might drop her. She was given sedation for the delivery, so doesn't remember some of it; but it apparently had begun quite a rainstorm and by Sunday morning the streets were flooded. She remembers a nurse relating to my mother that she had had to get her horses out of the flooded fields where they were being kept. My grandfather came up, too -- I'm guessing when he got off work (?) and then my other grandmother, my dad's mom, came on Sunday. They kept women in the hospital quite a few days then, and she thinks she stayed maybe 10 days. The doctor who delivered me was Dr. Charles Todd, Jr.
She also remembered that they told her at the hospital that they used me to get the measurements they needed for making a board to use for the male babies to be circumcised. (sorry, boys)
