Gender |
Female |
Death |
Between 1877 and 1931 |
of, Illinois or White Co, Tennessee |
- died bet 1877 and 1931, referred to in letter as "Moyers dau" from Cicero written in 1931.
note: she is not listed in her father's household in 1870 or 1880 census. Was she first born or last born? If first born, maybe married young? If last born, could Elizabeth have died in childbirth, and perhaps Cate died as well? Oliver is back in Tennessee living near Cicero in 1882. Cicero lists Cate as those who have passed since 1877. Would he have mentioned her if she was a newborn? She must have been a young girl and gone with her father back to Tennessee between 1880 and 1882 for her to be mentioned by Cicero. Why didn't Cicero list Elizabeth, his sister, in those who had passed? Was she dead before 1877, or did he not think of her since she was away in Illinois?

Notes |
- Cate is only known of because Cicero Stone mentioned in a letter in 1932 those who had died since a previous letter he had written in 1877, and listed Cate. She is not listed in her father's household in 1870 or 1880 census. He made the vague statement of several cousins, but then named her specifically. So, she must have been in his life for a period of time.
My guess is that Elizabeth died soon after Cate was born; the other children were all grown and married, except Nellie, who by then was about 21. Oliver took Nellie and his new daughter back to Tennessee to be with his in-laws. They couldn't have been there long when Nellie died, as was written about in the letters, while visiting her Aunt Phama. Cate could have lived on for a period of time in Tennessee for Cicero to remember her.
