1260 | Lafayette Cemetery Status: Not yet located; 3285 Mount Diablo Blvd Lafayette, Contra Costa, California Lafayette's cemetery was established on 4-1/2 acres of hillside property owned by Medford Gorham. In 1874, he sold the property for $100 to the Cemetery Corporation which was chaired by Elam Brown. The Corporation fenced the property and located the roads as they presently exist. The original Death and Burial Record Book, still on file in the cemetery caretaker's building, shows names of the deceased, date and cause of death, plus age and place of death. A complete copy of the book is in the Lafayette Historical Society file in the Lafayette library. In 1937, the Alamo-Lafayette Cemetery District was formed with county taxation to ensure perpetual care. (findagrave) Lafayette Cemetery is at 3285 Mount Diablo Blvd in Lafayette, between Pleasant Hill Road and the Lafayette Park Hotel. Take Hwy. 24 to the either Central Lafayette exit (and turn left on Mount Diablo Blvd) , or the South Pleasant Hill Exit and turn left on Pleasant Hill and left again onto Mount Diablo. http://coccc.tripod.com/photos3.htm |

1268 | Landrum Cemetery Status: Not yet located; Fannett, Jefferson County, Texas This cemetery is off Hwy 124 in Fannett. The road entering appears to be a private farm, however, just a short distance and you will see the cemetery off to the right. There is no road to it, so either a short walk or drive in the grass. I visited this cemetery on 10/17/10, and I did not see a gate on the front, back or side closest to the road; however there were flowers on some of the graves. I did not walk around on the far side of the cemetery. These photos are just to show the setting of the cemetery. 1279 | Lee, Samuel | |||
1280 | Lee, Samuel document provided to me by Sam Beaumont, grandson of Samuel Lee, 3/20/2016. (snip) "magazine published by the Danish Museum in Elk Horn, Iowa, where I found a listing for Danes in America (Danske i America). Looked up the on line version and found a Lee, immigrated in 1828, birth place listed, US residence (Jefferson, Texas), occupation (rancher) and then a puzzling notation "aka Sorensen". The family story is that Grandpa Lee was a cabin boy and jumped ship in Philadelphia at the age of 12. With his birth date of 1816, arrival in 1828 fits, as do Jefferson, Texas, and his occupation. The "aka Sorensen" has me stumped as that's never come up in my recollection. I've sent an email to the Danish Museum for guidance to track down some additional info. Attached the pertinent info. from Danske i Amerika." response from danishmuseum to Sam: (snip) "Attached is my translation of the paragraph in Danske i Amerika discussing your ancestor (I don’t think there’s any doubt about it being him). So, as you can see, he was reportedly born near the town of Ringkøbing in western Jutland and was originally named Sørensen. (While ‘Samuel’ could be his original given name, ‘Lee’ certainly wasn’t, and most Danes of his era had patronymics ending in –sen as surnames)." (snip) "Possibly Samuel adapted his first name from ‘Sørensen,’ but that’s just a possibility. Seamen from this era are particularly difficult to locate and in Sam’s case, with a birth year of 1818 +/- and an arrival date of 1829 +/-, he would never have been enumerated in a Danish census since the first one taken after his birth was in 1834" |

1290 | Letter - 1856, 01/15 from Mary M Jones to her aunt, Susan Bounds Butts. Mentions some friends, one being that Susan received a letter from Aurela Seal. Aurela. a child at this time, was the same age as Susan (b 1846), and was the daughter of John Seal, a blacksmith, and his wife Eliza. They were from Mississippi and living in Victoria (1850 census). 1293 | Letter - 1860, 02/06 from Mary M Jones to Aunt Susan Bounds and cousins. Told of how cold it was, and that Poppa preached at a house nearby, and coming back they ran into some people and they went to Dr. Throckmorton's and had dinner on the Cabeza; but Poppa went the other way. (d) Note: "Dr. Throckmorton" was listed in the Goliad County census the following July. He's listed as John, a physician, age 35, but he didn't know where he was born. He had a wife and six kids ranging from 16 to 6, born in Arkansas and Texas. He also was a slave owner, as listed in slave schedule. George (Mary's brother) was studying to be a doctor in Goliad County. Can't help but wonder if Dr. Throckmorton somehow assisted him in his studies. linked to: Susan Evaline Bounds, (foster?) 1295 | Letter - 1860, 07/11 from Mary to Aunt Susan Bounds Butts, referencing her new bro, Andrew (my g-gf), and other family news. Written in Dewitt Co, mailed from Helena, Texas. "Mr. Bean" referred to in this letter was Russell Bean, a 30 yr-old gentleman from Alabama, with a wife and two small children. She states Mr. Bean had bought Uncle "Alec's property and had a wonderful well, sustaining 4 families thru a drought. She states that he had been hurt in an explosion while blasting a well for George Jacobs who was son of Andrew Jacobs. A.J. Jacobs and Bean were neighbors with only one residence between them. George Jacobs was connected to the Jones family by marriage as his sister-in-law Julie Wilcox was 2nd wife of Alfred Allee, who was widower of Ann Lovelady, daughter of James and Nancy Lovelady. George was living next door to the Loveladys. Thanks to Geneva Garrett's voluntary search, she found the transaction where Russell Bean bought 252 acres from A. Allee, etux (Book J pg 239) A. Allee must be Alfred Allee, who was indeed Mary's uncle, but odd that he would be referred to as "Uncle Alec." She also states "Pap and Grandma talks of going to the mountains they have sold their cattle." (Pap=James Lovelady; Grandma=Nancy) She also mentions of Ann Bosworth's marriage: "I was surprised to hear of Ann’s wedding. I think she is quite young."
